Sirius Research and Development Bar - Littleone - 04-23-2013 Sirius Research and Development Because Knowledge is Power You start pulling various levers in your cockpit as your ship slowly comes to a rest in the hanger. You get up and leave the cockpit, wait for the ship's airlock to open and then walk out of the ship. You are barely four meters away, when several service robots whiz towards the ship and begin checking it for any damages. Then you give a slow groan and stretch your arms out, enjoying the feeling of your muscles relaxing. Then you walk across the hanger and towards one of the elevators. You step inside, and as you do, you notice some of the old Sirius Research and Development propaganda posters pasted onto the back of the elevator. You look at it for a few seconds, then turn around and say "Bar one". The elevator then gives a quiet whirring sound as it starts descending. You step out of the elevator as soon as the doors open, and are greeted by the smell of alcohol and the sound of people chatting. You look around and see the usual crowd: Bill and Charlie, two of the top Traders in SRD, arm wrestling, surrounded by men cheering them on, Alice, a thin, beautiful woman, aged twenty or so, one of the fleet's best Guardians, someone you wouldn't want to cross, and of course, a group of Scientists sitting together at a table, talking animatedly. Derek, Miles, Samuel and Yang. You smile at this scene, then walk over to the bartender. "What'll it be?" He asks you. //You may role-play however you like here, as long as it is sensible. You know that Rheinland strictly controls in- and exports of their products, including your wanted beer...and the onliest source are..."*he even gets closer to Hans' face; he is feeling a bit annoyed right now*"...the Hessians who smuggle such things over the border" *Hans looks grimly all of sudden; knowing the drill of all the other bartenders he has met so far and pushes the bartender gently back to his normal position; rolling his eyes* " Look, mein friend, i know what you want to say by this..." *he pulls out his E-Wallet, sending 50 credits to the bartender*" I hope the barrel wasn't shacked too hard like usual..." *Greedy, the bartender checks his tool and smiles like on the first day* "You didnt just see that, right, Sir?" *Hans looks bored* "Seeing what not?" *he answers resignated* *The bartender nods* "Thats the spirit." *Getting his ice-cold, prickling Rheinland Beer in his hands, he drinks half of it instantly and looks a bit more relaxed now. " Just what i needed after flying through half of Sirius " *Now not being focused only on his thirst anymore; he looks around: Some folks are arm-wrestling while others are watching. Being alone at the bar, he decides to stand up and walking over to those people with his beer in his hand. Standing there along with the others, watching the game, a man with a beard and muscles like an ox is approaching* "Sir, you seem to be new here, aye?" *Hans has the feeling that the man is staring with his blue eyes right into his soul; fearing a soon-to-be realigment of his face* "Err...ja, i am kinda new to this place...Hans is my name, Sir." *The ox-man smiles with his perfectly white teeth and shakes Hans' hand* "Ah, a Kraut, eh? *he smiles softly* Well, a rare sight around here. But you are drinking the good stuff, and a man who drinks that can not be twisted in his mind!" *while shaking and saying that, Hans feels like in a ping pong game inside an asteroid field* "W-w-well, nice to meet you too, S-Sir...?" *The man stops shaking his hand* "McLeoth, Hans. Brian McLeoth. But you can call my Leo, just like everybody else here." *Hans feels relieved now; keeping his face how it is* "Danke, Leo...so, is that what you guys are doing to kill some time on this station?" *Leo explains that this is a competition; and some people raised bets on the opponents. He asks Hans if he wants to set a bet on an arm wrestler as well; would be the best way to get known to some of the other folks. Five minutes later, he is 500 credits poorer....* *Flushing his beer down in one sip; he sits down on a divan and checks his money on the omni-tool. He mumbles a Rheinlandish curse when he recognizes somebody is moving over to him. Feeling a bit uneasy, he smiles back and nods; interested in what the person will say* RE: Sirius Research and Development Bar - Ash - 05-05-2013 "New here too huh?" Says Axel shaking the man's hand. "I got here earlier today actually. I got the memo and figured I'd lend and ear to any fellow scientists willing to share their ideas. You never know what the next big thing's gonna be right?" He waved a gesture to the bartender who then started pouring a tankard of Hamburg lager. "I'm a fellow Rheinlander myself actually. I noticed you're from the same neck of the woods. Only a Rheinlander drinks a beer this stiff eh?"" The bartender pushed the full tankard across the bar to which Axel nodded in thanks. He offered his hand to shake... "Axel Schultz. Director of R&D at Ariel Enterprises on Holstein" RE: Sirius Research and Development Bar - Littleone - 05-06-2013 There is some commotion around one of the elevators that just arrived, people start crowding around, then a new figure emerges from the rabble and walks across to the podium. "Ehem, welcome, ladies and gentlemen, I, as you may already know, am James Little, current Head Overseer of Sirius Research and Development..." He waits until people stop clapping and then continues. "There are a few things I wish to mention today... Some sad, some good, I do hope you stay all the way through." Some people shuffle in their seats to get more comfortable. "My tale is of the past, about a year ago, events which haunt us all still. As you already know, we used to be much larger than this, there used to be so many of us." He gestures around the room, around a quarter of the seats are empty. "Now... Some of you may know this tale, some of you were there. Some of you aren't even members, and are here only for a drink and a good chat, no matter, the story is a good one, I promise you." "Firstly, I must mention a very important man, George Quest. George quest was our founder, a good man I hear. Unfortunately I never had the good fortune of actually meeting him. This was one man, and we are his legacy. This one man managed to build a community, a family of families, a great man, and without him. we wouldn't exist." Some people start whispering and he holds his hand for silence, the whispering stops."This man was a scientist working alone, but he had an idea. He got some other scientists to work with him, and together they grew, and became what we are today. You see..." He stops to think for a second. "As an individual, we are great, but as a community, we are the greatest. If we stick together, through thick and thin, we will make it through these times of trouble. Trouble caused by events barely passed." Some of the people who aren't members look around at the members with sorrowful eyes. "There was an accident, just like everyone makes on a daily basis... Unfortunately, this accident was made in the wrong place at the wrong time. We used to own a mobile research centre, a large ship that catered or our every need. Unfortunately we made some large errors that lead to the demise of the station and many of our members. Firstly, we relied on the station too much. We put almost all of our labs on it, and many of our members lived there with families. Secondly, we made the mistake of doing some high risk experiments on board - Do not blame me, I had no position of power back then - One of these experiments involved a reactor, I am not sure which type, but I know it was dangerous. This reactor had to be made extremely precisely, there was no margin for error, yet there was an error. One simple component wasn't made to the exact perimeters, and someone failed to check it. The result? An explosion, a very large explosion." "Loss of life was great that day... So many of our members were killed, I wasn't. How many of you are survivors?" A few people put their hands up. "Then you must feel my pain for the loss of so much. The members nod their heads. "But after this catastrophe came great reformation, and we shall rise again. We will gain power, and we will prosper." There is a large round of applause, and some members stand up. After a minute or so James holds up his hand for silence once again. "There is more business I must inform you all of. As you may already know, we have signed into a contract with the Commonwealth, one which I hope will allow us all to gain from. Full details on this contract can be found on news bulletins throughout the bar, so please, feel free to take a look, and if there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Now, moving swiftly on." He looks across at Hans. "For the last part of business today, I wish to introduce you all to an old member of the faction, a great scientist, Mr. Hans von Goeben!" He motions towards Hans -one of the members that had put his hand up earlier-, obviously wanting him to join him on the stage. People look at Hans expectantly. RE: Sirius Research and Development Bar - Ash - 05-06-2013 Axel listened intently to the man who had entered as he spoke over the crowd. Nobody noticed the realization and distraught on Axel's face as the man reached the brunt of his tale. Axel went white and steadied himself on the bar, he slumped onto a nearby stool and held his forehead with one hand. "Not again.. How..?" He whispered. An applause broke out as James Little concluded his speech. Everyone seemed to be looking at someone else in the room but Axel's mind continued to spin. Finally after the crown returned to the tables and lounge areas of the bar he pushed on the bar and sat upright. "Whisky and ice bartender, lots of ice" The bartender nodded and began pouring a glass. RE: Sirius Research and Development Bar - Hans von Goeben - 05-06-2013 *Feeling a bit surprised by James being pulled out of his memories about the accident, Hans slightly shakes his head like trying to get rid off of the pictures of that certain day and hurries to the stage; still having the beer in his hand* "Uhh...well, danke, James. It is nice to see that you remember me, Sir." *James looks at him in a way being full of expectation; Hans was such taken by surprise that he has to think a couple of seconds about what he should say next* "I...I am really glad hearing those words from you, James. Though the organisation has had a nearly lethal knockback and the former members have scattered across Sirius, you were able to contact a lot of us and new, willing and ambitious looking folks. Plus, you have a plan, like always. Since this whole crew looks good and the deal with the Commonwealth, too, you can count on me, old buddy." *He cheered to the crowd and James; taking the last sip out of his second glass of beer. Nodding to a couple of people in the crowd, he notices Axel sitting alone at the bar. Though Hans wants to check his Rheinlandish associate, he feels that James stillw ants to add something to their speech.* *he thinks* "Right after this, James, Axel and I should speak about all of this...alone." RE: Sirius Research and Development Bar - Littleone - 05-06-2013 James Smiled warmly at Hans as the crowd cheered. Mr. Goeben, you are a biologist, no? Well, I have seen the work you did in the old days, good work. I think I can say with some confidence..." He reaches into his pocket and takes out a round badge with an elephant inscribed onto it. Along the bottom of the badge are the words Quod scientia sit potentia, and along the top of the badge are the words Biology Præpositus. "...That you will make a proud addition to our ranks again Mr. Goeben. I wish for you to have the position of Biology Overseer, do you accept?" He holds out the badge to Hans and grins. RE: Sirius Research and Development Bar - Ash - 05-09-2013 Axel finished his drink alone at the bar as the crowd behind him began to split into groups of people all chatting and discussing work and politics. Feeling a bit less tense he relaxed his shoulders and and sighed deeply. He abruptly stood and made his way to an empty booth across from the bar and sat. After he was comfortable he fished into his pocket and pulled out a flat square metallic device and placed in on the table. Almost immediately the device shimmered and projected a hologram of a cube floating just above the table. Axel began fiddling with the hologram itself which reacted to the gestures he made. He began to scroll through his calendar and personal records and began making entries. |
