Proposal: ID changes for 4.87 - AeternusDoleo - 05-14-2013

I've been mulling over the current list of IDs and their allowances. After grouping them a bit by faction type, I've tried to harmonise what can be done on them and where - also adding in clearly defined Zones of Influence for most factions, and a brief description of what the faction is all about. Note that this is just a personal sideproject, and this is only a proposal so far, I've not even discussed this with other devs or admins. I'd like to get some player feedback first, just in case something was missed.

Gj with the Nomad ID, but it does raise another question, wilde does not have a base in the omicrons so should it be better to remove the "Dock on wild bases" or allow them to enter tohoku?

RE: Proposal: ID changes for 4.87 - Jeremy Hunter - 05-14-2013

Hey Aet. Like the proposal, just a few things.

1.) I didn't see a clause in the GRN ID that allowed us to attack anyone at war with us. Did I just misread something? I just wanna make sure it's clarified.

2..) Intel Factions losing cruisers. That doesn't really make sense? Or was the line just accidentally left out? Some Intel Factions (Like the =LSF=) Use one or two cruisers, and it would be a shame to lose such things that have been a part of the faction for a long time.

3.) The Order's caps still restricted to the Omicrons. Is there any reason for that to really continue? It's just useless at this point.
3b.) Also, adding cardimine and slaves to our contraband list? Hurting the Outcast Trade hurts the Outcasts, no? So like...please?

4.) Where's the SCRA ID :|

- Can hunt pirates, terrorists and lawfuls within their Zone of Influence.

- Cannot use any transports with more than 3,600 cargo, except for the Pilgrim Liner and Pirate Train.

Zone of Influence: Liberty, systems directly bordering Liberty, Kansas, Humboldt, Vespucci
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports

Speaking as leader of XA, we actually like freelancer shippers that are Libertonian moreso than the Liberty corporations with the exception of USI who we would gladly bear children with. EDIT: Also, we VERY COMMONLY ally with lawful groups as is. It's not called "allying" because of, well, the rule. Which, I might add, makes no sense for xenos. If XA shows up to an RM/LN brawl we shoot RM. We're only targeted before RM is all dead if there's a few indies there that just don't like xenos.

Maybe a "May only ally with lawfuls to fend off foreign invaders" could be in order, specifications can be added so no loop-holes arise.

EDIT EDIT: Also.. Why did you remove the "May treat foreign vessels as combat targets" line? You realize what Xenos are right? See: "Ultranationalist terrorist group" We don't ask for cargo from say, kishiro and if they give the cargo we're like OH WELL FANTASTIC KEEP ON YOUR WAY, CITIZEN! o7

RE: Proposal: ID changes for 4.87 - Jack_Henderson - 05-14-2013

It is a ROLEPLAY server.

=> get rid of all the "May treat as combat target" lines in ALL IDs. Not give even more people that line!

Especially roleplay between hostile factions has to be "forced", to take place at all.
Giving out this line just reduces the interaction to: "Hey... Die!" where you had to have a few lines or at least a response up to now.

Tau example:
> IMG can now simply kill OC transports shipping Cardi. Up to now, we tried to intercept, stop, roleplay, etc. Now the rules actually allow for: "Die!" rp.

That's crap.
Sorry for the clarity, but I HATE this line that allows for more pewpew and reduces rp interaction even further. And it is already low, especially between enemy factions.

RE: Proposal: ID changes for 4.87 - Sad - 05-14-2013

Just a couple of things to notice. Kempeitai is an example, yet it applies to all the Intelligence factions such as LSF, BIS or Marinanichschwein.
Code:
The Kempeitai is the Kusari covert operations service, who specialise in spying and sabotage outside of Kusari space.

Pilot carrying this ID is a member of the Kempeitai, a lawful Kusari intelligence agency, who :

- Can demand contraband, levy fines, and destroy ships if they refuse to comply with contraband demands, refuse to cooperate or are affiliated with a house at war with Kusari within their Zone of Influence.
- Can hunt Military pilots of houses Kusari is at war with within and outside their Zone of Influence.
In 4.87 Kusari found itself having no wars with other Houses which rendered the opportunity to harass any other House useless. I believe this line needs a different wording to avoid such issues in the future. Let's say:
Code:
Houses and organizations considered hostile by Kusari.
Same for the other Houses.

Basically, less restrictions. More allowances. Less opportunities to sanction people.

That applies to all IDs. Dealing with players is more fun than dealing with rules limitations. Also, increase zones of operations, people don't love to be locked inbetween the walls.

I don't care if the intelligence services lose allowances for cruisers, but the factions should be given an opportunity for SRP ships on the matter.

I suggest dropping Kruger from no-dock/piracy list, yes inRP Daumann and Krugers are competitors, what doesn't change fact factions may be interested in cooperation, especially against hessians or IMG, as even Disco history shows as I heard. Currently Kruger and Daumann IDs aren't rephacked to each other, and it allows flexible diplomacy in the gameplay.

As to "may treat as combat targets", I'd rather see it gone, but if it's not, you forgot to add GMG to Outcast ID.

I'll give more feedback on this later, when I carefully read entire list.

EDIT: RIght, we would also like to have our own ID description written and submitted by us.

RE: Proposal: ID changes for 4.87 - Catbert - 05-14-2013

Well, I've taken a look at the LSF and other intelligence faction IDs. Quite interesting ideas there, I must say. Got a few concerns though, or at least some points that could use clarifying.
LSF ID Wrote:- Can hunt Military pilots of houses Liberty is at war with within and outside their Zone of Influence.
Do Police and Intelligence faction pilots of hostile Houses fall under this as well? Because I think it would make sense.

Order ID Wrote:- Can hunt Wild, Nomad, Outcasts, BHG, Core, LSF, MND, Kempeitai and BIS.
It would make sense if the intelligence factions could retaliate and hunt the Order everywhere, I guess.

Any Intelligence Faction ID Wrote:Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports, Gunboats
It seems that the cruisers were excluded from the list. I can see the intent here (the IDs have become a bit more flexible and clear; plus, it'd prevent House Intelligence cruisers roaming around hostile space and cargo-pirating hostile corporations). Of course, it'd be sad to lose access to the ships we've had for a while (like =LSF=Mount.Iliamna, which has existed for as long as I can remember).

Of course, the ships could be de-tagged, re-IDed and RPed as House Navy ships assigned under Intelligence Faction's command (or SRPed, if the tag matters that much), but the proposal leaves me with mixed feelings (though I still like the ideas you've come up with).

P.S.: And yes, Sad has a point here. The IDs should leave more room for improvisation. Yes, I do realise that some people would rather have the ID describe all possible scenarios instead. It's a two-way street.
