Is there a place the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport into Disco? - lIceColon - 05-22-2013 clarify once and for all: I'm not suggesting a direct import, but rather suggesting the general design of this ship be incorporated into a barge sized disco ship. I'm simply suggesting that a ship be modeled from scratch in the design of this ship, since I think its cool and its characteristics make a cool ship. The focus of this thread is to discuss the viability that a ship with the gist of the Starship Troopers ship specified is a suitable addition to the mod. You guys don't like imports and I'm not forcing it as an import, I understood you guys don't like imports after the first guy said "imports bleh", so can we please focus on say a ship based on the general design of the ship mentioned and stop spamming the i-word? Disco has lots of ships based on designs from different sci fi films, but I've yet to see one from Starship Troopers. And I looked at the Corvette Transport, and figured it'd be a perfect barge-carrier-liner-transport mix, with passenger bonuses- eg. 10000 units cargo but with half the cargo penalty for human cargo What features make this ship suitable for disco, is that when its capabilities are converted for Disco usage, the Corvette Transport Features: -Medium hull strength -Limited Defensive Capabilities -low Shielding -Large Storage Capabilities -With Jump Capabilities limited to jumping itself and the docked ships ie. Jump Drive Module Series III -Docking of 10 bombers/freighters -About the size of the barge (500m in length) -Low turn rate, moderate speed I mean why not? I'm thinking this could potentially replace the Barge or act as a alternative Barge sized liner with a sleeker design and potential military roleplay opportunities. Besides like Kuze says, (04-15-2013, 04:13 PM)Kuze Wrote: The ship and vehicle designs cooland isn't that in the end what really matters about space sims? Roleplay Introduction: Some dude found the blueprints for the Corvette while smoking a joint, improved upon the design and licensed the production to a ship building faction. Available 3D models: Unfortunately only detailed models from the sketchup warehouse so far but I figure you guys probably have no problems converting + "adapting" this to fit the disco style i also understand 4.87 ship model submissions are closed, but I'm not really submitting a model, just an idea. A really good idea that if not 4.87 must make it to 4.88 imo. opinions? RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - Echo 7-7 - 05-22-2013 The current policy held by the Dev Team is strictly "no imports". We are currently in the process of phasing out the imported ships from the Mod. Edit: That's not to say you couldn't model a brand new ship inspired by this one - it just can't be identical. RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - Hone - 05-22-2013 Short answer: No. Long answer: No because we are getting rid of imports. RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - Durandal - 05-22-2013 Disco's modus operandi is actually to replace imports with original models, quality notwithstanding RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - lIceColon - 05-22-2013 i understand no imports, but just say a ship in the general err style of this ship? RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - SMGSterlin - 05-22-2013 No imports, so no, this ship does not have a place in Disco. However, using that ship as an idea to model a similar ship could be possible, depends how close it is to the original though. RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - kikatsu - 05-23-2013 Going to move this out of ship submissions and into general. While I like the idea of adding new classes and ship types, the idea of adding more imports, as you have seen the devs/community are against it. RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - Karst - 05-23-2013 While as others have said, imports are not desired in disco, I quite like the looks of that thing and I think it actually fits freelancer / disco style very well. If you really want that ship, change it a bit and think of a faction that has a reason to produce something like that. And get someone to model and skin it. Judging by the picture though, this seems to be nowhere near the size of a Barge. More like a large battleship. RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - sajjukar - 05-23-2013 Also the starship trooper ships are very similar to X Universe ships (X2 to be precise) http://mthec.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/x2-02.jpg So its an import in an import and while 2x import, the answer is 2x No RE: Is there a place for the Starship Troopers Corvette Transport in Disco? - lIceColon - 05-23-2013 (05-23-2013, 04:19 AM)sajjukar Wrote: Also the starship trooper ships are very similar to X Universe ships (X2 to be precise) The first X was released 1999. X2 was released 2003. Starship Troopers is a 1997 film. So it would not be a 2x import, in fact x2 would be ripping off starship troopers if anything. so y the hate? Anyway I'm gonna try to learn to model using maya. I've currently gotten a hang of how to model with simple geometry, here's my current first attempt at a non penis inspired masterpieces: once i get the hang of things I'm gonna make a corvette transport "inspired" model. |
