the shape of things to come - Alley - 05-31-2013 Battleship Normandie Omicron Delta "Still no sign of the Hera?" asked Alice DeFrance. "They are three hours late already, no signal sent either." Colonel Lavalle answered. "I don't think they made it through. The signal would have been sent already." A disturbing silence kept the bridge quiet for a few minutes, the humming of the computers reminding them of the time passing by. "I'll be in the transmission room. Ask Miller if she knows a place where we could temporarily stay so we don't get all killed." Lavalle nodded. It was appearant the Princess was a bit stressed by the recent events, likely because they already went through this once, but this time without a destination. As she opened the door of the transmission room, she noticed a woman was already there, likely done with her transmissions as she was about to leave. "Commander Winterfield." said Alice with a smile. "Princess. I have finished. The room is yours." "How did it go?" "Bad, but it was expectable. As you asked, I did not reveal the reasons." "Thank you. I know it must be-" "Look, I rather be a war time deserter than a traitor considering what she discovered, and with Hale that just retired, the new high command is extremely fragile and it's obvious they will use it to their advantage. That's all it is. This is my way out before it is too late." The Commander left the room as she finished, leaving Alice quite disturbed by these harsh words as she sat down on the communications chair. "ERIS. Begin transmission. Recipient is Capitaine Aubert Giroux... if it's still that. NID LT-05478ADI. Subject is... hi. Encryption and Priority level three. Message begins. Bonjour Aubert. I know you're alive, so you might want to stop pretending to be dead. You're a dad, dickhead. Get back to me as soon as you can. Message complete, send." "Message sent and analysed. According to the analysis, the Capitaine Aubert Giroux has been promoted to the rank of dickhead. Congratulations. He will now be referred to as Dickhead Aubert Giroux. Please confirm the accuracy of this change." "Yes. I mean no, I... just revert the change." "Internal confusion detected. Program restored." "God damn computers..." she sighed. RE: the shape of things to come - Ryummel - 05-31-2013 EOS Task Force 'Grenouille' Three days later. The mercenary found a chanceful opportunity when the gallics approached him offering more credits that he could've ever managed to gather by escorting cardamine haulers between the Taus and Liberty. Giroux was fairly aware about how risky the journey would be, and thus relied on offering a vast quantity of money to the mercenary to avoid any kind of double-crossing. Avoid, or at least reducing the odds.
Sneaking through asteroid fields and nebuelaes, the gallic pilots felt briefly shocked at the sight of the 'wreckage' disguised as asteroids, but that seemed more like pieces of some ancient gigantic alien structure that blew up and spreaded klicks and klicks away from the systems they flew through. An anecdote to note was that he surely thanked the fact he brought another thousand-worth load of credit chips to jettison for the raider squadron that he was lately introduced as 'Corsairs'. It wasn't until the third day when they reached the Omicron Deltasystem where the coordinates granted to Giroux set the Normandie behind the only gas giant there. Once the Agama ships -Aubert's among them- drifted toward the dark side of the planet, it didn't take them long enough to spot the Valor battleship bearing the 'Normandie' impressed on the side. "This is Grenouille One from the Council to Normandie command. We're escorting the VIP to the arranged meeting place, over." RE: the shape of things to come - Alley - 06-04-2013 "ERIS to callsign Grenouille One. You and your squadron are authorized to land. Proceed to Docking Bay Two." Meanwhile, aboard the Normandie, the Princess had just left the transmission room. The transmissions would not be sent untill they would be in range of a satellite. In case of doubt, she still had the possibility to alter their content. "Re-Bonjour ma chère." said Lavalle, that appeared out of no where. "Nom de dieu, you scared me. How fast are you?" "As fast as a teleporter from the bridge to the corridor behind us can be." "I always forget about them. I guess a long walk is good for health." "So about the forward cannon. Did you-" "Princess, the enemy delegation has successfully docked. Dickhead Aubert Giroux is confirmed to be among them. Shall I activate the napalm trap?" "What the hell...?" "No, ERIS. No burning people. I want you to change the status of the Council from enemy to friendly. I'm sincerely surprised nobody did it untill now. I also asked you earlier to revert the changes related to Colonel Giroux. Please do it." "Modifications applied." "I'll go welcome them. Activate the cloak and keep an eye out Henri." "Alright. I'll return to the bridge then. Let me know when they'll be about to leave. I'll send the Athena to Freeport 11 to grab some supplies before we leave." Alice gestured a quick goodbye to the Colonel, now on her way to docking bay two. RE: the shape of things to come - Ryummel - 06-07-2013 The four Agamas could hardly blend with the Lynx acting as escorts now docked in the same hangar the Councilmen were assigned to, and several Libertonian-looking snubcraft were also easily spotted between the gallic hardware displayed there.
Aubert rose slowly from the Agama's seat once the canopy had opened, narrowing his eyes as he noticed these surprise elements populating the Normandie's hangar while making a futile attempt to monitor everything and everyone moving around him. While the usual sigil of the Council would be the golden fleur-de-lys on a rose, the pilots that had escorted their Colonel through the harsh Omicrons carried a crimson nine-pointed star instead, thus vaguely implying they obviously weren't part of the main branch of the Liberation Navy. Having the unrecognizable EOS pilots staying behind him, Aubert was guided by the Normandie's officers closer to the hangar's main exit, where the Princess supposedly would meet him... After so long. He coughed lightly and tilted his head a bit, feeling somehow shameless as she approached. "Mes salutations... Princess." He mumbled in a formal and distant tone, rather uncomfortable as he knew he had a lot to explain... If she actually bothered to demand so. RE: the shape of things to come - Alley - 06-10-2013 Alice stared at Aubert for a moment. It was as if her eyes were a raging fire about to consume him, while she seemed to be incredibly calm. "Welcome aboard the Normandie." said the Princess, with a smile. "I believe we have matters to discuss between us, Colonel. In the meantime, after such a long journey I think your men might appreciate a good meal. Lieutenant Brunel here will show them our cafeteria shall they be interested." The Princess invited Aubert to follow her into the infinity of the Normandie's corridors, gesturing to the Lieutenant to lead the other Council guests to the cafeteria. RE: the shape of things to come - Ryummel - 06-11-2013 Alice and Aubert eventually found themselves facing each other in the corridor leading to the Princess' quarters. The closer they got, the more nervous Aubert felt as that meant he would soon meet the children that he together with Alice conceived.
"I know this wasn't the best start, you giving birth to our children alone and... thinking I had vanished forever but... There was no other choice, I hadn't ensured I would be even accepted among the Council ranks... And thus exposing you to a great danger." He began explaining, remaining firm in his stance although barely looking into Alice's eyes. RE: the shape of things to come - Alley - 06-29-2013 It was as if his words were only heard by the void. Alice didn't seem to pay attention to him, in fact she was pretty much ignoring him entierely. "There's always a reason with you. Always. For everything. My "early retirement" was being plotted by Aurelia, and I had to save myself and my crew alone with Henri because you decided to go play pussy hunter in the ranks of the Council, but obviously it's not your fault you weren't here, isn't it? There's obviously a reason." she paused. "I went to see your dad. I cried in his arms for you, suffered for months in your name, because I loved you. Of course it doesn't matter, because there was a reason. How nice I learned that you were alive from a report of the Liberty Navy about you chasing an outcast smuggler in California." she finished, opening the door leading to her quarters, gesturing to Aubert to enter. Alice closed the door behind her, and headed to the two cribs, cautiously picking up the baby in the first crib. "Elizabeth, this is your daddy, Monsieur dickhead. How about you say hi to daddy?" The baby seemed to not give a damn at all. "Well that's not very nice." said Alice, while staring at her daughter. She then looked at Aubert again. "In the other crib is your son, David. Maybe you can trying holding him, and I'd appreciate if you could do that without killing him." RE: the shape of things to come - Ryummel - 08-03-2013 He sighed quietly as he was led through the blast door into the room, not seeking to engage in any argument as he reminded himself about the children he spotted resting in their cribs. He only drew a soft smile at his daughter Elizabeth, who indeed seemed more attentive toward her mother, and walked by David's crib.
"Again, I'm sorry it had to be this way, but announcing our defection without a safe haven for you three would have made it worse, Alice. Now, we've got a place, a planet, hidden in a Sirian system. " He explained, carefully caressing the child's cheek with the back of his hand before he would hesitatingly pick him up, taking him a bit before he held David properly, making the baby whimper while at it and eventually just bawling quietly, curiously glancing around himself. "If you don't want to forgive me for this, let me at least offer this one shelter for you and the children." |
