Community input: What sort of things would you suggest for a showcase?

Fleet warfare without whining can be easily filmed as long as you do not join either group and have to deal with the group chat.

As for the faction history thing, if you mean the official ones- that would be pretty darn interesting, but mostly for the existing Disco players. These series would be focused on the new peeps.

The focus group for these videos will be new players, rather than existing ones. However- I am considering making a short "How to RP" video just for the especially troublesome players. Nothing serious, simply making a character and filming irp footage of roleplaying. The obvious problem with that thought is that I have no intention of giving an example of RP and then be criticized by existing community members, who value their RP skills higher than mine and, at the same time, it could lead to odd situations, such as filming interactions and suddenly getting an OORP encounter instead. That- and I am pretty sure that the players, who have no idea about roleplay will even watch said video. But it might be worth a shot.

I think the roleplay video is a great idea, to show that roleplay isn't that big a deal.

I had a friend that played this game, he was a hauler and we were sitting in the same room playing. Some pirate tried to stop him and chatted to him in local, but my mate was all like "lol wtf this dude is talking to me, buzz off", ignored him and flew on, got horribly killed and never ever played the game again even though I kept trying to convince him for almost a year.

To some people, the idea of roleplay is a bit "unsettling", mostly because you are used to every other player being douches out to get you if you've played online games. Other people really really want to roleplay, but think so hard of something to say that they end up being quiet, and then often dead. The idea of staying calm and just replying, saying anything more or less - it doesn't have to be replies that are carefully thought through or anything like that - is a fundamental aspect of the game. I've encountered soooo many quiet traders that didn't respond to a thing I had to say until after I killed them and they PM'ed me angry messages in perfect coherent English. If they'd just said something in local, they would have had a better experience.

When it comes down to it, it almost all relies on standard phrases and replies and standard actions and reactions. A 30 minute video with random roleplay encounters can cover almost all situations a new player might find themselves in, so that would be a useful video, I reckon.

Might be a cool idea for a series of videos, even possibly get a guest or two explaining their chars. Not sure if it would work but it is a neat idea
