Synopsis:
Upon Kanzler Niemann's inauguration as Kanzler of Rheinland, hopes were high that the newly elected candidate would bring about a new era of prosperity for the people of Rheinland, and sure enough, they were not disappointed. The industry started to blossom, private spending skyrocketed, and the Bundestag, as it had always been, was in disarray. The Kanzler, using his privileges imparted on him by the constitution started steering the house seemingly irreversibly towards the brink of another military conflict. The more time passed, the more hardline and paranoid the Kanzler seemed to become, refusing to see even the most rudimentary of petitioners or advisors. Although he reigned like a dictator, the people loved him, as they did not understand the economy was building upon a wartime preparation, and that all the money was just being printed in order to appease the central banks and interests of smaller, private players.
Fueled by an ever growing sense of dread that seemed to loom over his head, thought of being detected or disabled before he could fulfill his task of beginning an offensive war against the other houses, Kanzler Niemann created a private security division whose purpose it was to protect him wherever he went and to ensure that the Kanzler's will was enforced in places where the common law couldn't reach. Stalwart and strong, Niemann's Leibwache was born. Unbeknownst to all, Niemann saw to it that those joining it were gifted with the same blessing that he had received and had made him see clearly for the first time in his life: A Nomad Incubus.
Lore: The dark beginnings:
Ernst von Schreck
Before the nomad war started in 800 A.S. they planned on how to damage the houses the most. Rheinland chancellor Niemann provided the perfect host to use the humans as the sword of the nomads. Kanzler Niemann was not reachable at that point so another high-ranking officer had to do the deed. It was the former Grossadmiral Ernst von Schreck, who was responsible for the infection of Kanzler Niemann himself. Grossadmiral Schreck infested Kanzler Niemann while they had a private meeting about the plans Kanzler Niemann followed. Together with Schreck and Niemann, the nomads then had the full control over Rheinland and its powerful fleet which was used to wage war against the other houses. Niemann however, was a paranoid man who did not trust anybody except for his closest partners that, with time, got also infected by the nomads, so he created his own special task force, the Leibwache, which was there to protect and accompany Niemann wherever he would go.
The Leibwache was made out of the most capable soldiers and agents within the Rheinwehr and the Marinenachrichtendienst, they were dedicated and did not fear death already when they served Rheinland. To gain a tight-knit special force, propaganda was spread around to advertise for the most fearless people in Rheinland. Most of the ones that applied for the Leibwache got rejected at the first try, the ones who felt strong enough were tested to their bones until they would break down, after 2 months of recruitment and infection, Kanzler Niemann's Leibwache consisted of 10 people that guarded him all the time.
The process:
A soldier is being sworn
into the KNL doctrine
Every applicant would need to prove that he/she was able to withstand the worst conditions, whether it was fighting in unnatural surroundings or being able to think clearly under heavy pressure from all sorts. Every applicant was tested psychologically before even being allowed to prove his/her physical capabilities, this test consisted of a simulation creating a real-world like surrounding to test emotions like fear, that might have been negative for the KNL. The applicants have been asked beforehand, what their greatest fear was, which has been used against them afterward. Most applicants failed while attempting to pass this test, as a normal Rheinwehr or BDM training was not as challenging as this one. In the very rare cases, in which an applicant passed this test, he was allowed to prove his physical capabilities, a hard test consisting of the test of strength, stamina and hand-hand, as well as hand-weapon combat. A single soldier had to be able to fight off a man, who was at least double the weight effectively, as well as being able to run for 1 hour straight under several different circumstances and environments. The simulation made it able to create desert and snowing surroundings to test their withstand from heat and cold, how fast they would de-hydrate or freeze to death. The combat training was meant to fight in situations, in which your foe was taller and heavier than you, also armed with a light weapon, something every KNL soldier had to be able to solve correctly. If an applicant succeded at those challenges, he was being interviewed by the Kanzler himself before being sworn in into the KNL doctrine, which was always a public event, to create propaganda.
For Kanzler Niemann and Rheinland
I stand here, raise my hand, heart, and weapon
to endorse the happiness and serenity
that our glorious Kanzler wants to happen
O you soldiers out there you stand up
and join our greatest cause
do not disappoint or fail
as the Kanzler does not allow any flaws
And we shall march with him into victory
to show the pride of our nation
we'll rise up to the greater goods
greater than our imagination
So holy Kanzler I swear to you
with all my life provides
I shall protect you with everything I have
so our nation won't fear starless nights
The Nomad war:
KNL and Rheinwehr ships destroy the Daam K'Vosh cache
Kanzler Niemann, upon order of the nomads, sent an infested Rheinland cruiser with Admiral Schultzky to the New York system in order to infect president Jacobi, however, the operation was interrupted by an Order strikeforce that destroyed the Donau and killed Schultzky in the process, this threw the nomads back in their plans for a while.
Another operation was the destruction of the Daam K'vosh cache on Planet Sprague, the nomads could not allow this to be researched by the humans and thus used Kanzler Niemann to send a deadly strikeforce of infected and KNL soldiers to Sprague to destroy it, which succeeded. Those actions were the start of the war with Bretonia and Rheinland.
The RNC Jormungand was the flagship of the initial Rheinland fleet that was deployed to Kusari. Accompanied by numerous cruisers, gunboats and several squadrons of KNL fighters, it was destined to steamroll through Honshu. However, an ambush disabled the fleet, stalling the inevitable advance of Rheinland that would occur later. It was one of the single largest engagements of the war, and the beginning of the end for the infested Rheinwehr.
The RNC-Jormungand on its way to Sigma-13
The nomads tried to use Rheinland shipyards to create their deadly "Marduk" ships, a shipyard within the Westerwald nebula was built to create a fleet for the nomads to attack the colonies. The KNL soldiers inspected the shipyards now and then, when a deadly Bundschuh strikeforce destroyed the facility mid-war, the KNL soldiers, that were inspecting the facility, were killed which made them raise the threat level to ROT-5, the highest security level, Kanzler Niemann was under surveillance all the time now.
The prison station Mitchell in the Alaska system, was an ideal place for Niemann to respite for the moment, although many of his KNL soldiers died, Niemann ordered a KNL and infested MND task force to capture Jacobi and bring her to Alaska. The operation succeeded and Jacobi was brought to Alaska for her infection, they were aware, that if they succeeded, the Nomads would win the war, at this point, they were not aware of a group of Liberty Navy and LSF deserters that broke into the Alaska system to rescue President Jacobi. They managed to enter the prison station and make their way to the room where Jacobi was supposed to be infected.
The Rheinland Chancellor attempts to infect President Jacobi
As Kanzler Niemann was trying to infect Jacobi, Freelancer Edison Trent broke into the room and killed the Leibwache soldiers that did not expect the attack, Kanzler Niemann died in the shootout in Alaska. This made it possible for the deserters to rescue Jacobi and take her back to Liberty without any harm. The Leibwache and the rest of the Rheinwehr were now without any command and thus Rheinland lost the war and had high casualties. The infected soldiers were purged by special forces within Rheinland and by the rest of the colonies. The Leibwache has also been exposed and exiled by the Bundestag as they were too much of a threat since even special forces could not purge the rest of them.
After the war:
A KNL gunboat in an unknown system
Like the rest of the infested Rheinwehr ships, the survivors of the KNL fled into the far Omegas, safe from their prosecutors, to gain new strength. For a long time they have not been seen but like Das Wilde, they launched small devastating strikes on civilian and military targets. To build up new force however, the KNL needed to get new recruits, which they could use for their own agenda, they were subsidantely smaller than Das Wilde while being under their own soldiers, but still worked together with them as being part of one mindshare. While sharing almost all of the aspects of Das Wilde, the KNL strictly pushes for soldiers that are well trained and easily manipulative, so their minds can be filled with their own ideology. The KNL are easily mistaken for normal Rheinwehr and BDM ships and thus often sneak under the Rheinland Military or the Buro der Marineintelligenz, collecting all sorts of data about possible soldiers for the Leibwache, which are being trained after their holy doctrine, should the KNL see them as worthy.
Propaganda:
KNL soldiers captured a victim of their propaganda
The KNL have recently got some attention through several heavily encrypted messages for the Volk of Rheinland, those messages contain everything from old speeches of Niemann, to audio recordings from their very own soldiers, a recent photo showed the imprisoning of a man, which the KNL captured and later killed brutally. They also don't stand down from promoting their militaristic and patriotic image, which is not too rare pulling soldiers out in the far Omegas, where they are waiting to ambush and infect them. Although being ruth- and fearless, the KNL does not show images of the execution of unworthy ones, to help them remain a false image for the public, they succed at making the media believe, they advertise the Rheinwehr with those messages, which gets then new Rekruten. To cover their identity up, they show themselves as a private Rheinwehr division with an own way of operating, thus their strong militaristic image.
