I'm thinking if one paid with no exchange of fire and moved on and had a solid rp character tied solidly then why not?
If you moved on and finished your run its past. Its not "reengaging" as you can engage a freighter over and over anyway.
If you hijack an IMG transport I can see an IMG fighter coming for you later--pretty rp. Just not--"You dirty so-and-so! I'll be back to kill you in just a second!"--and then popping up in a Liberty battleship.

Actually Jinx, the point about being able to comer back in a character with sufficient motivation to do so is wrong. The four hour rule does not applie to traders, and that's it. Everything else does, for the purposes of a piracy attempt (whatever the result) you have lost a PvP encounter. So you can't come back blasting away at the pirates in any ship whatsoever.
Tell your mates where they are, get a posse together and have them ride the pirates out of town, you just can't be a part of it.
Essentially, do not go back to the pirate with another character to kill him.
Edit: if one could reengage using characters with multiple ships (ie, a transport captain with a backup fighter) then you'd conveniently see a lot more of these roleplay-combinations popping up. Traders who have a friend who turns out to be a liberty dreadnaught commander, a smuggler who coincidently has a corsair cruiser in the ol' garage... Not good.
If u dont like beeng pirated dont play Traders.
U can always hire and escort.
If a pirates gets u,fit in ur role.
For example,i encountered once a 2 BD GBs + 1 Bomber. And quess what,i was the one gettin donations from the pirates. And i was flying advanced transport.
Disco is not freelancer single player, accept it.
Beeng pirated its same like trading,[color=#FF0000]ITs PART OF THE GAME!

I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying here... I've never been pirated since I only smuggle, and nobody usually bothers me. This was just hypothetically speaking.
@ Robert Fitzgerald:
Thanks, that clarified it for me. Thread can be closed now, problem solved.
