How to fix the annoying NPCs

Alright, so I was recently aimlessly floating around in Disco, waiting for anything interesting to start happening.

In my head I was reflecting on the past encounters and interactions, and I have come to the same conclusion as many others have before:

NPCs sometimes really hurt the quality of interactions between players

A sudden change of heart? You might say so...

But the problem is not the NPC loadouts, or the NPC density.

The problem is NPC stupidity.

They lack the context, they are hardcoded to pew pew and nothing else. Even if an enemy wants to chat instead of shoot he or you will be forced to fire the guns to keep the annoying NPCs at bay and not get blown up by them.



Alright, since we can't change the source of the game without resorting to low-level black magic there is only one option left. We have to make NPCs somehow ignore the players when the players don't want to be bothered by them.

Sort of like the game state triggered when you accept a mission that has you travel to a certain spot, the ambient NPCs ignore you.

And surprise, surprise, a solution like this is already implemented in the mod:

It's the /resetrep command that sets your rep to be fully neutral.

The only problem is... Darkwind, with good intentions, heavily limited its implementation to prevent abuse, although i'm not really sure I understand all the scenarios where it could be abused.

The one exploit that immediately comes to my mind is the PVE battlefields, as one could just sit there as neutral and keep earning the bounties until his rep gets back to red.


Currently the biggest problem in using this command with more flexibility is that you have to be docked + it auto kicks you to reset your rephacks.

If we could get a second version of this command, maybe with a bigger credit price and smaller cooldowns it would be very useful for RP heavy encounters + it would also make a decent credit sink. Maybe PVE Controller could be modified to not add any bounties to players who used the command until docking to prevent credit farming abuse instead of a have-to-be-docked limitation?
