I don't mind getting hit by Pirates in my trader.
It's a good reason to post a bounty and give the bounty hunters something to do. :D
Nothing wrong with good RP.
It hurts a lot if you get hit at level 30-35 when you have all your funds tied up in cargo...but that's all part of the game.
It isn't so good the way people are complaining.
People complain about not following server rules that don't exist(eg. shield running, docking in PvP, using bats and bots)...others complain about bad RP.
For example, there's been complaints about SCRA following their RP of examing ships for specific items and demanding release of a small number of those items.
There have been all kinds of negative comments about SCRA ships policing systems they shouldn't be in. What the hell? If you're not allowed to follow your RP in a system, what's the point in playing on the server?
The complaints make it seem a lot less worthwhile and make you question what you're doing on an RP server if your RP is constantly being questioned.
I'd question why things like pirating in a capship are apparently not allowed. It's easier to evade a capship than a fighter and the restriction seems to limit RP possibilities more than it should.
Another thing is that there is nothing in the server rules about this "rule".
Freelancer ID allows for piracy but there is nothing in the description about not being allowed to use capships.
Well, that seems to have turned into a bit of a rant. Perhaps there are some points worth consideration though.
Good on the Phantoms for following their RP. Keeps you on your toes to have to dodge them while trading. Hope to see them back soon.
You know what Ant, your right. Im tired of not being able to follow my RP, that me and Aeon spent long, tiring hours writing. moving now, to the message dump, to restart that policy. I'll pester aeon to chjange the status post to warn of this eventuality. However, twist theis time (FYI for all the ppl that don't read the message dump) Only to be done in fighters and gunboats, and if you have any complaints about it, start a thread and rant at me. I think we know who im talking to.

PS: sorry, got a bit off topic. PLEASE COME BACK PHANTOMS! It wont be the same running around in a light fighter in the border worlds anymore. And sorry @ Kane for denting your shields up in alpha. I was still in a BH frame of mind.

I'm not trying to be an admin or interpret the rules. I'm just taking the rules at face value.

Quote:Next, I'm going to remove 'allowed ship types' - entry will stay, but now all faction IDs will provide same allowed types. Only exception will be Freelancer ID and Criminal ID. Owners of this ID won't be able to buy gunboats, cruisers and battleships. I remind once again that requirement to change Freelancer ID is no longer level 30, it's level 35. Already changed in server rules and server banners.
Read til your heart's content about the ID rules here: Faction IDs
Also, shield running or cruising in PvP is in the rules:
1.8 Using cruise and quick engine kill to boost speed in PvP fights is not allowed.
And I don't know about you, but docking in the middle of a fight is about the same as f1ing in PvP. You basically leave the fight..just like you do when you go to your char screen after an F1.
Bots and Bats: If you have em, fine use em. It's in the unwritten 'gentlemen's rules' to hold off on using the hell out of them.

Now, back on topic! Seems when the Phantoms get the better of some players, they whine about us breaking the rules. This was said about us recently and was a blatant, outright lie! Those of you who were there know who i'm talking about. But this is something Phantoms encounter EVERY TIME we engage anyone (with the exception of the PLH and a few others)
Frankly, i'm sick and tired of being called a coward when I choose to leave in my little raven claw. Yes, I have gone up against BS's in my fighter, but when there are two or more my odds of dying triple. I do NOT want to be called a coward for leaving. But, alas, I am called that and a number of other names. So the Phantoms are painted as a hit and run group who do not stay and fight. Damn, you guys can put a spin on anything we do!
Know this, Onyx will stay and fight you! But, what if I have something in my hold? This happened a few days ago with an sso|. I had guns that I had just bought to be donated to the Angels...and the BH caught me outside of Tripoli. If I hadn't just bought all those guns, I would have fought him! It was not cowardly.. just a plain economically sound decision!
Most of the time you'll see the Phantoms in a group. That's how we operate. If you see just one then they're probably waiting for others to show up! And you had better well know that when DarkStar is on, his slayers will do his bidding. I normally wing up with Glock or Dalamar. Yes, we will engage then. But if two fighters or a fighter and a cruiser get the better of you and your friends in battleships...well, you scream that we cheat, we lie, we don't play honorably! No, we're just that damn good :P The Phantoms consist of members who have been on this server for a long time. We are not a fly by night faction!
I AM tired of questions like "why did you kill me?" or "can I join the Phantoms" or "Wanna PvP?" or "Well, if you don't want to PvP, you must be chicken!" or any of the other dozen things I hear everytime I log in my Phantom chars. If you don't know who we are, or what our RP is then go read the damn faction status page. Oh, and while you're at it, read the server rules too.

Appreciated. I was trying to do the same.
Quote:Also, shield running or cruising in PvP is in the rules:

Isn't this rule describing how speed can be boosted to 350, then with engine kill maintained in a straight line while allowing firing?
Or are neither cruise or engine kill allowed?
That would turn all fights into a slugfest with no tactics or skill required.
Shield running as I understand it is going to cruise to allow shields to recharge. This tactic seems to be used frequently and seems perfectly legit... Unfortunately, cruise disruptors don't seem to be very effective. :(

Docking has been used against me before. If you're PvPing near a faction's home base, it seems like a legitimate tactic. The defenders should have the advantage of equipment and supplies.
Don't engage so close to bases if it bothers you.
There seems to be this strange conception that every fight has to end with one side being destroyed.
Personally, I prefer a win where the opposition is chased away, tail between their legs, to count the cost in damage. Slugfests are so boring.
In the same way, I'd prefer to run than to have my ship destroyed. If trapped, I'll duke it out but that takes skill from the chasers. :)
From every side, whatever you do...there seems to be this constant stream of complaints.
Why complain? Play the game.

Running is a smuggler's best and only sensible tactic.
What's the sense in spending hard-earned drug profits in ship repairs.

Caylith where did you get that quote about faction IDs and them removing ship limitations? I couldn't find it.
