It's in the same class with Barghest, Challenger, Thor, etc. Very good for lone cruisers, when you dont have a whole team available, and excellent for transports too. Mount a CD+SNAC+NOVA, knock the shields with SNAC then NOVA NOVA NOVA. You dont need guns, you have enough power to use SNAC for shield-buster. You lack the agility to survive a fighter defense anyway. It's what the bombers in this game should be.
It's also the worst in its class, with the largest shape and tthe fewest hardpoints. Pretty sure this is to balance the fact that Bergelmir is the most OP light bomber in the game. Everything you wish the Fafnir had, the Bergelmir's got.
Fafnir purpose? To be easy to kill and kill things easy as well. But its too big and slow for my taste, Id prefer Mjolnir with its fighter guns and snac/cd. Sad I cant use it for piracy...
' Wrote:Heavy bomber vs light bomber:
- Heavy can use 2 torpedo slots and a dedicated CD slot. Some prefer dualnova, I'm more fond of snac (for gunboats) and nova (for battleboats).
- Heavy power core recharges more quickly. It's damage over time capability is MUCH higher then that of a light bomber, which takes longer to recharge.
- Heavy bombers lack agility and are larger, which makes them more vulnerable. To compensate, they generally have freighter shields.
Basically, a heavy bomber is what you send out if you need to quickly burn down a group of cruisers or battleships. In packs of 2 or 3 they can toast a capital fleet in minutes. A light bomber is what you'd field if you're after smaller targets and have the risk of being challenged by fighters. It's a good choice for pirates: Plenty of power to toast a transport, good enough dodging to last a while and make your escape.
Almost true- you forgot to sey that the role of the "medium" bomber is to be OP.
Ah yes you also forgot to say that if Heavy bomber get tailed by single fighter it does less dmg then light one.
About the fanfir- it is useless in general if you could use bergel- with very limited usage only with dual novas and team to carry novas for you and when the enemy have no snubs, bergel is a way more multifunctional and better in all possible scenarios.
Ursus Bergel is "medium" bomber unfortunately not light one- it wont be OP if it was light one. The claim that model could not be make bigger to keep the stats made by the balance lead does not change the fact that the same model could get mamuru like stats and stay in game without any major problems and you could do it even with sever restart- it is not like RM does not have heavy bomber to cover the "medium" bomber change....
But it is nice to have LF sized "medium" bomber unless you are not on the receiving side.
All suggestions and fixes for bombers could be found in Bombers topc made by Joe, however there the Man that is never wrong-the almighty Balance Team leader that never makes mistakes said Not U anyway.

Not really.. it's even heavier than that. And it used to be extremly fun to fly against cruissers/battleships if there was no fighters present. At the moment I don't know.. will TS/TZ and reduced snac range the extreme wide arse and clumsyness for fafnir is a huge drawback as it can no longer keep long range in order to hit with accuracy and stay away from harm.
It would be fun to have some sort of forward gun on that ship instead of additional torp slot. Something like snac with longer range (of 1,5~2,0k for example) and perhaps narrow firing arc.

It is way bigger and slower for sure, but powercore and number of torp mounts is all that matters in the end. I can kill RPCs that come out by themselves with it no problem, and also works for BS if the pilot is stupid and doesnt have flak or backup but that is less likely (hard to play long enough for BS and stay that stupid).
If it was a little smaller and the two turrets had 360 rotation, it would be almost the same as Eclipse.
