Hello (OOC), I am basically a newbie here although i did play discovery along time ago for a short period of time. I played VOID server alot although my chops are seriously rusty. I have some decent ideas for characters and have reviewed some recruitment factions but I just want to be clear Im not already breaking the rules:
I have been using a recruit ID to attempt to set up a couple of characters to start. I read the description of the ID obviously but am unsure that it says (Holders of this ID "Cannot Trade" but then states allowed ships: "freighter, transport". I assumed this was a non RP ID to properly set up a character (takes a while from scratch) and is temporary even though I have to make a ton of runs too get set up with a freighter and then switch to a fighter and have proper rep and ID (non the less also setting up a secondary proper trader). Am I interpreting this correctly or am I already cheating?

Sounds to me like you are already cheating if you are trading with the recruit ID. The recruit ID is indeed meant for OORP use, however it is meant for players to complete NPC missions/bribes to get the rep they need for their character without being disturbed by other players and not to make money via trade runs for a nice ship. To make the money you need for your characters you need to do that INRP and with a different ID.
To help yourself get the rep you want, I recommend opening up the chat box in-game (do this by pressing the 'enter' key), then type:
"/showrestarts"
Without the quotation marks. Then pick a desirable factions to restart as, then open the chat box again and type:
"/restart faction_you_wish_to_restart_as"
Again without the quotation marks, an example for the second command would look like:
"/restart fcIMG"
After you have done this you will be kicked from the server, when you re-join you will be in a new location with the rep and the ID needed to play a character of your chosen faction.

Ya you remember that....?
Ya I'm a cheater then. If you can just restart as said faction then why does the recruit ID exist? Anyways thanks for your time in the reply... I'm glad I asked, I will try that now

It was a long time ago.... but hello Zeus. Ya the restart thing won't work b/c I scammed my way to like level 48 and obtained decent faction, so i the sake of good Outcast pirating storylines, I think i can RP this in and slap the ol' FL ID on. I will start my other 2 characters correctly now that I know. I guess im open for business... (btw can someone direct me to the proper TRIAD to Discovery Pirate faction support group [X] ?)
A few other questions:
Is there limitations on what ship you can fly with which faction? Specifically can I fly a Zoners ship when I'm an Outcast?
do I have to tag myself [X] for pirate I have seen some [R] which I believe was a reaver assassin on Void or maybe [H] hunter and I have seen some other designations here (A) etc...
I can just go RP a faction I want without joining a official faction (not that im adverse to the idea)?
thanks...

You can fly just about any ship-ID combination as long as your ID lets you fly that class (transport, gunboat, cruiser, battleship). However, you may receive a reduction in your power core regeneration based roughly on the how the combination "fits". In your example, the table here the intersection of Outcast IDs and Zoner ships is a red cells, so your ship power would only regenerate at 10%. The only exception I can think of is the "Whale" Zoner Transport, where the infocard specifically says it can only be used with a Zoner ID.
If you want to fly a unique combination without a regeneration penalty, you can build some RP and apply for a Special Role Play.
No tagging required, but you can do it to make yourself easily identifiable if you want.

Yes, you can be an independent character for most factions without joining their official group, but I'd recommend it once you feel comfortable. There are a few exceptions with unique IDs not for sale, but most have an open ID that's similar.

recruit ID is a good thing, you can fly around sirius without problem and in same time, take the time for observation. sure you can use restart to be faster depend of your money/time. if you restart beginner, make a choice quickly, to have enought money to buy an escorter. freighter if i remember is not a trader ship, with it you can make a bit of SC
