do you wear headphones? do you wear headphones that have open backs and feel like theyre missing something in the sound? do they sound too quiet even at maximum volume?
i have a short little video where all you need to do is listen and watch when i turn the EQ on and off.
my audio preferences and headphones differ from yours, but my headphones (Phillips SHP9500, would recommend, i rarely shill for products) run a little quiet, and are slightly low on bass. here you'll see what audio settings bring them to life for me
doesnt apply to people who know what equalizers are
also if you already have very bassy headphones, maybe turn the volume down
this isnt so much a tutorial, but a number of my friends had no idea there was a way to tweak audio, and i figure some of you arent aware either.
this wont rescue super cheap headphones from their failings, but you might be able to do some magic with low/mid range ones.

buy better headphones
ah yes spend money when you dont need to
or just use an equalizer. some "better" headphones need an amp too to have decent volume but that creeps into audiophile territory

i wont insult your intelligence by assuming you lack the ability to critically think
equalizers can help with audio quality but software equalizers are prone to interruptions and performance if your computer is busy with a demanding game for example. I had one, but the cpu usage it added and audio suddenly cutting out on demanding games made me uninstall it and just buy a better set.
I use this same Equalizer APO as in the video, it's really lightweight and handy if you have a cheaper headset, or one that just isnt being cooperative with the audio/microphone output. Its also nice for lowering the bass output of a headset, as I find that many headsets are trying to erupt my eardrums by default.
On top of that it has a really handy feature to swap the left and right audio channels if you have a reversible headset that's more comfortable "backwards".

if yours had a brand name strapped to it i can probably tell you why it was awful
youd be amazed how incredibly lightweight and efficient some random dude on the internet can make software
