Puv, Sorry if this ship wont be a cashcow if it gets in. Cry some more. Sheesh, is it wrong to expect pirates to work a little for attacking a heavy transport? Not all of them would suck ya know, sooner or later a group would wise up and make one that wasnt a paper bag with engines. Besides, again, no thruster, no cm, means no running from CD's even mounted on a startracker. if you cant stop a ship that goes 90m/s impulse with no thruster before it goes the 30k or so to a base, perhaps pick your targets more wisely.

If by "work a little" you mean cutting through 4.5 million armor and 200k shield (repeatedly, b/b), yes, yes it is wrong. Hell, it would be wrong even if it had no turrets, no CM and no CD.
So its wrong for a ship thats battleship sized and has a max gun range of 1.5k to survive 10k? Snac's would tear it up reguardless. It would take a pair of bombers to kill it anytime soon, possibly, but keep in mind somthing this size is VERY easy to hit.
There will be no liners or battleships with mining capability, period. Hegemon will be the heaviest mining ship available - want more? Get a Pilgrim Liner and a Mafic to fill it. I'm open to the discussion of having trading ships with different emphasis. The 4600+ cargo ones are pure capacity, and balance wise won't be having much in the way of defense because they sacrifice everything for cargo.
There's the 3900-4600 band that has some other options. Liners with strong hull but dreadful maneuvering. Container transports with a little weaker hull but still heavy defenses, and (for a transport) reasonable maneuvering. If people want to sacrifice one thing for another - some guns for additional armor for instance, that could be discussed. But adding mining capacity to these kinds of ships is not going to happen.
A huge miner with strong hull and enough cargo space to operate as both a trader and a miner will only result in more Q_Q and F1ing because the thing takes AGES to fill, and pirates will charge it very highly due to the total value of the cargo. It's a class of ship that promotes oorp conflicts, which is why I'll not support these kind of mining vessels.

Pros:
Having variety is always a good thing. Setting this up for an older brother of the BWT wouldnt be a bad thing in considering such. However you would definately have to take into consideration on where you would sell this ship for one.
Now when it comes to setting it up. I see no reason into having GB level weaponry on a few points. However giving it the armor of more then a Royal Liner would be borderline here. And yes, taking away a CM is one thing, Thruster..Not so much. At max, I would think of a bit less then a Bretonian Cruiser armor wise would be it. And yes this ship would be classified under Liner at least in my opinion. Problem is that most IDs don't support liners...Which stinks..
Cons:
However Aeternus has a point. Making it capable of mining, ermmm..Gonna cause problems. You don't see Junker Slave liners mining scrap do yah?

Then why not make it have no mining bonus. Lower cargo in exchange for armor and sheilds would be a fair trade, though. Considering somthing this size cant really be offencive. The model would make a good independant heavy transport for those who dont feel right rp wise using a house version. Perhaps a 3600 cargo utility ship with heavy defences but low manuver?

Sure, however the Junkers use a mining frigate (which is pretty much better in nearly all respects to the hedgemon) for scrap mining, and there's apparently no problem with that.

Obviously. That's definitely been thought already. Of course, the 'windows' could just easily be viewports or some sort of weird external lighting than actual, floor sized windows (which would be really silly)
Quote:In any case, I think you're going to have severe trouble getting this model into Discovery. It's a seriously sexy mesh, but the problem lies in the fact it doesn't fit into any of the standing ship lines and it appears to be capital sized. Rescaling and editing it won't change the fact it looks like a capital ship, because that's what you designed it to be.
Generic capital ships over the size of gunboats probably won't ever be included. It doesn't look Zoner or IMG (going off Jinx and Doom's styles) and they're as close to generic capitals as you're going to get (i.e Corvo). It doesn't fit into any of the House military lines either, and the unlawfuls tend to have a distinct style too (Corsairs, Outcasts, Hessians, Rogues/Mollys, etc).
The fact it looks so generic is basically shooting itself in the foot, when it comes to Discovery.
Actually, a couple things. One, everything in Disco looks far too similar, and you know this. Example being the Rogue destroyer, gunboat, and transport, which all look like slightly up/down scaled versions of one another.
Second thing is simply put, there's always room for more ship lines, more manufacturers (who aren't the Zoners... again) such as the IC, or a third party who designs the ship and contracts construction off to someone else.
I'm also not really certain how it looks like a pure warship. It has numerous external cargo pods. While I'm not saying it can't look like a warship, I'm saying I don't see how it can't look like a cargo vessel as well.
