Bah, legitamate tactic and I don't see it as a failure of game mechanics.
The shields and hulls of large ships can withstand more of the heat....the snubs can't. Sounds realistic to me. It's just like a captain pushing his sub to deep for the destroyers to get him or a Cruiser sailing into a storm that will capsize gunboats. You may not like it, but that doesn't make it wrong for the captain to do it. Snubs use asteroid feilds to break up the caps field of fire, caps use suns to discourage pursuit.
Solution: Get him before he makes it to the corona or send your own caps in after him.

I think it's fine as it is. Using environment for your advantage it's an interesting use of tactics. Coronas and gas pockets favors bigger ships while asteroid fields favor small ships. It's also not a free ticket as ships still do take damage. You can even trap it there.
Unless of course we want to even odds for all encounters and turn Sirius into plain PvP arena.

I am forced to jump in and correct you here, if you don't mind. Most of what a star is throwing up at you is electromagnetic radiation. This includes light, heat, and gamma radiation, which are all photons.
A star is also releasing some particles, including plasma and other superheated gases. We don't know for sure IRL since we've never taken a space ship suicidally close to the sun, but I'd say if you could stand being cooked by the intense heat, it would likely be that dangerous matter in close proximity to the sun which would actually damage the ship. Just a thought, not sure if that helps the discussion.
/summon Friday, who often corrects me on the subject of Physics if I screw up. Don't think I have, though.

This, really. It's a legitimate tactic afterall.
And, if you think this tactic is too powerful, get a tactik against that one. Like trapping it there.
Obviously a BS will be able to survive much more than a fighter in Sun's corona. Is it not possible for the corona to do different damage to different ships via FLhook?
