I've got a pretty 'suckish' laptop that can run FL perfectly right now. If there will be new/better graphics and textures to this new update, will it affect my performance? Does anyone know if there even will be enhanced graphics? I for one hope not..

There are not likely to be many, if any at all, graphics updates in 4.86. You should be fine.
Not a lot of effort has been put into that area previously, so, it's unlikely to have a great deal of attention in 4.86 (unless the Devs choose to surprise us).

I made the expeience that FL simply stops displaying the textures if they are too graphic intense, at least on my laptop with lowest settings on everything
But hey, its cool to fight lights and guns.

You can only spruce it up
Like Crossfire.
There's actually a lot you can do that improves the overall impact of the visuals without the source code available. And if not optimized for lower end hardware that can make you take hits in performance.

My solution in fights:
All settings to minimum expect for Object Detail. Then you fight actual ships, not just lights'n'guns.
Not exactly. The complexity of models and the size of the textures are elements we can control. That said, I doubt there's going to be a notable difference. If anything, performance should improve a bit due to better hitboxes, but that is mostly serverside.

That's because some of the textures / models the mod is using don't have a low-res version.
It's indeed quite annoying though, on my laptop I have to choose between seeing the ships and lag.
It would be nice to have some extra graphical goodness integrated inside.
I would love an answer from someone more 'Enlightened' on the matter. He-He.:D
