It is called "Freelancer", after all. Not Starlancer. It's not frackin' Wing Commander, it's Privateer. It's Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, not Call of Duty.
That's the whole bloody point of the game. It's not Red vs. Blue.
From what I have seen, most people who disagree with the new system listen up to a point and then get stuck on one aspect of the change. Once the understanding of this aspect enters thier brain, all thoughts of other implications are forgotten or simply ignored.
1) The new system is impartial. The computer cannot be swayed into allowing or disallowing changes to the rules for "special" people. In the new system we are all equal.
2) The new system allows for greater role play opportunities. It removes many of the limitations on tech that the old system enforced. It does this at a price, the efficiency of some weapons, but that is not an exhorbant price for role players.
3) The new system allows Administrators and Developers to spend more time working on making new and exciting content because they will not have to spend so much time on sanctions for tech infractions. Each hour spent on sorting he said, she said, I can haz? posts, and They can't haz reports is another hour they can't spend on updates and bugs.
For those still not listening. You are not special. The word is equality, and there is no reason that you should be beyond it's scope simply because you have played the game longer than others. Your role play will not be hurt in the least by this change. You do not have to get rid of any current tech mixes and more mixes will be opened up to you.
Oh...I see. You loose the edge in combat that your favorite tech mixes gave you before. Well, if that was the reason for all your vaunted roleplay.....then I couldn't care less. You are one of the people this is meant to slap down.
Mael basically said it all. RP assets are not affected - ship movement and the ability to use weapons are not in question. You'll just not be able to use the weapons as often (or spray as long). This mostly affects unskilled players who need to spray in order to do damage, and capital vessels which rely heavily on energy to sustain fire on a target.
So yea, out of faction caps will be ineffective.

on the test server - i had a ship ( or rather ships, cause i m too lazy to equip them properly ) - that suffered HEAVY nerfs ( like i ended up with an efficiency of less than 0.3 [test version, don t panic!] ) ... and it wasn t affecting the pvp abilities too much - it affected the downtime - but that just meant i was practicing my dodging a bit longer ( a bit - not much )
Well, we'll see how it actually is in the game, but being someone who dislikes codes, finds the generic civi weapons inadequate and woeful, and prefers Heavy Fighters or VHF's - well, this all seems custom designed to make players with similar preferences have to suffer.
Plus, the whole "stamp out individualism" is something I dont agree with at all.
This probably is the wrong place to post something like this, but I think CODENAME weapons in general are just a bad concept.
Codenames are obtained by those who have OORP "mule" characters for the sole purpose of farming these weapons through meta-information. Not to mention, Codename economics is stupid. It's dumb to pay 20 million credits for a fighter weapon, especially when it respawns endlessly.
Codenames should be removed or the method in which they are procured should be changed. The entire codename concept is OORP, none of the guns have any "lore" to speak of. The method in which you purchase Codename guns is also OORP.
With that said, I hope civilian weapons get buffed and I hope more variety of civilian weapons is added to the game. Civilian weapons are good for factions as much as they are independents.
"Muling" characters for the sole purpose of procuring Codenames should be banned. Maybe I should make a different thread..

That's freaking fantastic and you're my new favorite person around here.

So what about super oorp combinations? Like a Xeno Battleship? What about Ships? Will they still be restricted by ID?
Rather confusing because this affects so many things that operate the same way...

It's an FLHook addition. I'm fairly certain it can in fact be overridden

I guess you live in a magical world where RP =/= PvP then, which couldn't be further from the truth.

That's a load. It's not because of "sanctions on tech infarctions", and I can guarantee you that you won't see newer, shinier content added at a faster rate than before, speaking from experience here.
It's because of everyone requesting Krakens and the like and the Aoi Iseijin using nom blaster Katanas, so basically everyone has to suffer just because some people did stuff. It's the classic way of handling things here in Disco.

Not everybody is equal. You want to treat them equally, fine. But I don't see a reason to focus on a negative instead of a positive. "Oh, some people are bad, let's nerf everyone's tech", rather than "Oh, some people are alright, let's let everybody keep their tech unnerfed so not everyone has to suffer".

Again, I'm sorry, you must live in a dream world where PvP =/= RP. There aren't even -that- many OP tech combos, and those could just be balanced out. The fact that Krakens -still- do 556 damage is insane, even if the drain got upped.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You probably should've referred to some aces instead. In long fights when using fast refire weapons you're going to be screwed over hard. It'll affect slower refire weapons like 2.00s and 3.03s less, but a fighter using mixed tech with 4.00 or faster shooters is basically screwed.
' Wrote:One could, in theory, simply use tech available to their faction.
It doesn't seem like such an alien concept to me.
And what if certain pieces of tech are not available to a faction, or have appalling performance in PvP, yet the use of out-of-faction technology is not detrimental to RP?
