I believe more should be done so that game mechanics make people play role play, That is very hard.
On the other hand, i think its a proven fact that humans don't really know what they want, so we should just play the game the devs give us. If the devs are helping one group or another like you say here, i think thats a problem.
And i will say what people have said to me:

Vets are leaving primarily because they are bored. You can only do the same thing so many time for 5 years and not get bored by it.
Also some of the centers hubs got killed. Omicrons got killed because they are too big and there is simply nothing to do there, with nomad numbers being as they always will be by being invite only. CR got killed in the Taus because... well, because Dab, Zelot, and Dusty. Faction leaders stopped doing the stuff they should because many were only doing it to give tech permissions to their buddies, and now that got killed. They are still clinging to the power thats left without doing their faction duries nontheless, which is keeping new people from taling the positions and being active in them.
You say that like no one can answer that. People help newbies out all the time. I know I help by pointing players toward the appropriate faction, and by informing them of profitable trade routes, so that they have an easier time of things.

How is stuff any easier to get now than it was in 4.84? Or is it just that all the "oldbies" already got their billions off of a mining gold rush/cheater money and bought 20 battleships and now they are bored?
Maybe we really could use a server account wipe...
First of all, I keep saying that wipe is good, go ahead please.
Second - I made with mining somewhere around 10% or less of my cash. I'm making cash with smuggling because it's a way funnier.
Third - You keep thinking that moneritary inspiration is good so you can't make your narrow mind to see that there was another currency in change back then with all those hated factions, rules and stuff which are removed now.
It's name was respect, trust and popularity. Yes, if you're no one you couldn't fly Freelancer katanas. That was making people to work hard to make a name for themselves. An individual was able to be popular with a starflea on his only one account and someone with all caps in the game was no one that is. You can always remember names of those who was putting a great deal of creativity into the game and was gone after all the nonesence that was introduced in order to fight off the "elitism", "favoritism" and other things.
Now game doesn't requier me to do anything to gain any of those goodies. I just can buy ship, if I have cash, and fly it till I bored. I don't even have to be creative to make people like that character so if I'll run out of names one day I'll start to give them numbers, why not.
So basicly with nothing bigger to earn and achive people just play here, play there. Try this faction and that. Gets bored and leave.
So that's what you meant by making things harder to get. In that case I totally agree with you on reputation point. In fact I remember saying something similar in powertrader topic about a year ago. Too bad to implement this we will have to create some system to "measure rp" in order to keep track of player actions. Unfortunately easiest way to do this is completely overhaul official faction system, which I believe is no one is ready to do. So question is, are admins/devs/mods ready to take on such task. I'm sure many people will come with ideas/complete systems, but it will be up to server administration to implement.
P.s actually i'm expecting to see administration official opinion on that topic.

FL gets boring and you stop playing it at all or there is someone special in your life that needs more time or you find another game etc.
myself i'm thinking to start playing again.
Less fun from game, less good players, with who you would enjou to play.
Sadly, there are many things, that reduced fun rly great, so, it's not a miracle, that less and less players we can see.
A lot of the vets and new players have done a lot to make this game better.
The worst thing in my opinion is that good quality RP from all sides got ignored , branded not official bla bla and basically making this a RP game where your RP doesn't count....
Official and non-official factions that worked their behind off to improve the immersion , dynamics and player dedication got swept aside instead of complimented for their efforts.
What have I done to make this game better?
Not a whole lot because as a faction leader you are constantly doing stuff to make the game better but eventually it's all worthless because its not how a very select few people think the story should go, and gets ignored.
It is ridiculous in my opinion how massive numbers of players got ignored, while disco degraded to a developers sandbox.
So many people who once played here had the greatest ideas , stories and best intentions only to be sent to the trashcan.
I hope this doesn't sound like a flame because I really don't mean to sound like that.
I have a lot of respect for the devs and the amount of time they put into this game.
I am confident that they are doing what they think is good and I can only applaud them for their dedication.
At the same time there is a huge number of players who simply left because they were massively under appreciated for their efforts.
I think this is possibly because the devs were too busy with fighting each other to take note of the players feedback , but I don't know...
Once again , I hope I don't offend anyone with this , but I've tried my best to accurately describe the reasons why the people I know left this game.
