Every change is discussed to "oh its this thread again" point before its made,
Setmsg topic was also raised many times already and public opinnion about it was well known (at least 2 threads i remember). Admins made this decision knowing some people WILL whine about it. "Group chat only" is entirely different question, because it can only be implemented by Cannon, and none in this community has moral right to ask him for anything.
This said, admins still have right to do anything they want, even if whole comunity protests against this. Whining about it, playing drama queen, leaving with loud posts, etc. seems quite lame to any person who understands that we dont have any direct influence over server future (and for good reasons). Only thing we CAN do is offer solutions and express opinions about them.

I will really miss this command. I needed it to greet not only every customer and deliverer, but also all fly-by-traders/hunters/whatever, if possible.
This command was the most important command for me. In heavy customer traffic, when I have had sometimes 4 channels open, and also a trade window open, I needed those msgs, to both fulfil what the RP situation needs, and also not to waste the customers and deliverers time. It was and is - even WITH that superhandy /setmsgs command - very hard for me to answer all requests on the channels.
I joined the server this evening, wanted to greet the only pilot near Norfolk, didn't work. I just docked and F4'ed, because I thought: "I will wait, until it is up again."
I just asked on the angels chat. What a bad surprise.
...
Let's see, what I will miss:
1. Good day, ladies and gentlemen.*
2. Good evening, dear #t.*
3. Good evenin', dear #t.*
4. Thank you, dear customer.*
5. Thank you, dear deliverer.*
6. Is there anything I can do for you?*
7. I am deeply sorry dear #t, but bad news are coming. Your scanner is srap. Buy a better one for only 999.999 credits.**
8. Scan me, dear customer. Scan me also with /si to see a pricelist and fursther informations.***
9. Dear customers, please stand by until I have finished my deal with #t. Thank you for paying attention.****
*Greeting sequences. Most used ones. Spammed sometimesin local, but rarely in system channel.
**This one I used only for making a harmless joke about their Discovery Scanners, if they havd it mounted. Then I explain, why the adv. cargo scanner is better. In >75% of using this, I convince them. My personal win is not the money, but the funny comversations I have. Most of them are "fly-byers" I cannot catch them this nice polite way, if the /setmsgs will never work again.
***That one was one I loved most. I used it, if anyone was asking for equipment or prices. So easy it was to promote how to read the /setinfo-thingie.
****The last one is by far not the most used one, but the most important one, while a trading window is open - perhaps I need to change me ship/shop just after the transfer too - and other local customers are asking for their deal too/again at the same time.
...
Cody is polite closed to brownnosing to his customers and deliverers. That is my reputation in Sirius.
I have no choice, since I founded Cody. I always have and like to paint some flowers around my conversations. Too often I am too busy to do that everytime, but I liked that, even if I still consider my english as too "small". It's just to make a nice "Welcome!". Not only to "Cody's", but to Discovery too.
I love this server. Around 20% of all days with Cody in average, I [angel] a bit on him. I open the Chat list, sort it via rank and explain a newbie, what RP is, the /restart command and - until now also about the /setmsg thingie.
/setmsgs was also nice to "test" someone, if he/she wanted to have a talk.
Mostly I get a "Hi" or "Hello" or sometimes a "Good day, Sir Cody", if it was a good day, but many pilots were just moving on.
Anyways, I feel bad now. Disappointed, desperated, demotivated.
Mostly /setmsgs are used for easier RP. It is not funny to miss that command.
Please be so nice and find a better solution.
...
Solution could simply be:
"It is not allowed to use /setmsg 0-9 as an (final) engagement notice!"
...
[rp] W.F.Cody is docked at Norfolk Shipyard. He was trying to start a shift, but the communication system totally crashed. He is a bit screwed up and exited about this problem.
Cody: "What is going on here? Lets check the logs of my systems onboard."
Log: "The new firmware of the communication channel is not compatible with your /setmsgs. Also it is not possible to remove the last firmware. Try next time!"
Cody: "Uargh! Thanks for this advise. I will better wait, until that problem with the firmware is solved. I cannot offer my usual services without this communication tools. It would really be too hard to manage all the extra work. "
[/rp]
...
tl;dr
I am sucked a lot, this cannot be true please.
Solution: No /setmsgs for the final engagement notice, but give back /setmsgs in general.

You are mistaken. Admins do not balance the server- they do the rules and administrative work. Dev team do balance of the in-game items and stuff- I do agree on your points but your finger is pointing in the wrong persons. Blodo/Mjolnir are the people that are supposed to balance the guns/ships and items in game.

TBH though I disagree with the removal of setmsgs, I dont think its gonna be the end of the world, in fact Im kinda interested to see what change it will bring. For me probly the only change is it will make me RP slightly less, as I wont have time to send a longer prepared setmsg, and will only have time to type "stop pay me" or "your under arrest" in order to have enough time to to kill them before the enemy cruises/jumps/takes a lane.
In some ways I take it FURTHER than spaz;

Let me also note, that there are many, MANY people, a lot of which I have flown with, who had no interest in RP, came here mainly for PVP, but still acted within the server rules by following minimum engagement fights and received and gave enough pew pew fun for both sides involved. Let this be clear. You can play on this server within the server rules and never have to RP.
If they shot the guys it was INRP for them to shoot, then I say, they WERE RPing! RP is NOT just talking remember? If I meet some Molly on my BPA, and all he does is shout "aaarghhg Im gonna getcha" and shoot me, thats RP isnt it?

Last 2 days i did see several times engage hostiles for direct pews. Or traders who did receive cd's just keep running you can not type and cd at the Same time. They just turn around you for example and cruise away while you construct somerhing meaningfull. For me it is an event of changes of The game in which i decided to take à break from the game. I Will just wait for the new update and see what to do then. If there is à violation report of me after this the person ingame kept flying away.

Happend to me also, got blown up while I was trying to construct a fancy prior engagement message to a liberty navy ship. While I was typing he insta-killed me with EMP and snac.
@ the people talking about communication and all that
Start using skype, ventrilo, mumble, teamspeak what have ye.
EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE in this community uses skype but almost NOBODY uses it for combat. Ive been in groups that used team speak instead of skype (while skype has better quality if you have a decent host) All you need is some mic discipline while you are fighting and designate a commander to call the targets
They do it on eve where the battles are 100+ people more often then not. As far as not getting blown up, dont stand still. type while your spinning circles or prepare a message before you drop a lane, go towards a pirate and so forth. To the poster above, that wouldnt have happend if you were moving. even if it were just circles.
