Oddly enough, it seems after reading those paragraphs that they're either talking about 4 different companies or they changed their names mid-paragraph.
I meant to ask what Monument Engineering was supposed to be. I assumed by the wording of the other paragraph that Valhalla was a project within Ageira or they were two seperate companies.
It's sort of hard to tell.

Valhalla was doing strange researches as I remember
I'm fairly sure from some stuff I've read that Valhalla was replaced with Ageira, although they did use the Valhalla-One 'tome' or whatever to create the "Liberty engine", lanes, gates etc.
At least I thought that, but this article mentioning both is weird. It might be some sort of midpoint between the original names where the current ones were added before being phased out, or inRP they were there (like GS&M in Dublin as a BMM subsidiary).

Could be...or it was just sloppy editing.
Something tells me it was the latter, as ME appears to play an important part in Kepler's development (and, presumably, Liberties' as a whole), yet I see no mention of it anywhere in the actual game.
I assume DSE was ME at some point, most likely when this story was written. Later they were changed to DSE and the story was just poorly edited.
For the record, Chugoku, Galileo, Kepler, Magellan, Omega-5, Omega-7, Omicron Beta and Rishiri all don't have stars, and that's not counting guard systems. They're called "systems" for lack of a better term.
Of these, only Omicron Beta contains a planet....how it got there is anyone's guess.

EDIT: To clarify, neither has anyone else.
That's actually something I had been wondering about. I wonder if it's more a case of some odd clouds showing up and looking dark and the media dubs it "dark matter". Meanwhile, scientists the galaxy over are headdesking, but it catches on and all the charts then call them dark matter clouds.
At least that's how I imagine like 3/4 of stuff in Sirius goes.

So Valhalla was the name of Ageira in it's early years.
I searched for Monument Engineering, and found one sentence which refers to it in the entire Wiki:
Trade Lanes Wiki Page Wrote:The first trade lane was established through a joint venture between Monument Engineering and Valhalla Research in the year 280 A.S.
Doesn't tell us much. It should say "joint venture between Monument Engineering and Ageira Technologies" if they changed they're name 130 years earlier....just a thought.

As a result, there are those intermediate systems between houses. With that in mind, it may just be the midpoint? Also, didn't the dark matter arrive after stuff was already built there?
No, according to what I've read, there had to be an interruption in the Jump Gate path through that system because of the dark matter present in that system. Jump Gates cannot cross a dark matter zone - doing so tends to have explosive effects (see the Dallas incident in Texas). Kepler was the first path, then Galileo was built up when it was assumed that Kepler would be obliterated by a Dark Matter storm.
