This Game is only a reflection of how things are in real life.. The things that you say Xing, are the same problems that are going on in the real world.. Think about what the Liberty Government can do to bring back the confidence of the people....

EFFIN' ROLEPLAY GUYS ... off to flood we go for that - Hoodlum
In fact, I'm tempted to have a protest about how the government let so many armed terrorists into Liberty for a funeral! They didn't even know the kids, and were obviously infiltrating!
Ron, I do not believe in real life unfortunately, it would be like this. There would be strong opposition and strong supporter to the events that hapenned since the beginning of the manifestation Del proposed (as I said, great idea and all, but wrong people came in for the wrong things.)
Here, there are only strong oponents to Liberty, while the only supporters really are law enforcement themself. But our laws aren't that terrible. (don't say 5M is a lot to register for selling weapons, because you make much more than 5M per guns you sell...). There is something completely unbalanced, see what I mean? In a more realistic fashion, things would at least have gone a bit more slow rate. DPL, in my opinion, would have begun as a political party of Liberty, with maybe his own militia under the umbrella of the LR (which is of course, not official). Things could degenerate, as some people take their side while others back liberty government. It would escalate to open violence, DPL being dissolved as an official party, all of them actively fighting against liberty - and then, some exterior movement might support them - everyone can have a reason to see the downfall of Liberty, due to the fact they hold the monopoly of a load of things (synth food among other things, seen badly in rheinland and kusari, orbital spa, hated in kusari, etc)
That would be realistic, would give a chance to people rping liberty law enforcement a chance to counter and all. This however, just escalated at incredible rate to everyone-hate-liberty.

hey I did first manifestation :$
btw I like idea of open civil war in liberty... everybody is posible enemy and you dont know into last moment who is with you and who against you... nice atmosphere for 1 peace of sirius

I did try, it is the only reasons why I'm posting these now.
I'm not a very good capdriver, nor that good at pvp. I usually prefer to avoid them. On server, I always relish on RP first, combat after. I did, and found no solution. I did try to rp it out, many time, it completely failed.
All I'm asking, is for some of you people opposing liberty, back off. I can't believe because some weapon legislation passed, everyone begins spitting on us from everywhere on Sirius. That doesn't make sense.
To support vision you must do something for it. One cannot just claim it and say "so be it", unfortunately that's not how things work. I work hard to support my vision, at times being completely tired (took several breaks already), so why can't you do the same for your vision then? I help others too, you know. But you don't see me coming here and complaining and whining about this or that, I've long time found it being totally inefficient and furthermore severely damaging own reputation, so I'm doing things different ways. Creating and inspiring. Environment-safe method.
But back to the topic. Do you have any option? Yes, you do. Did you try? Perhaps, though I haven't seen it myself and therefore cannot say anything specific at the moment. However I do assume it wasn't enough judging by the lack of success. Perhaps other approach will be more successful. Giving you a hint there: media is countered with media. Considering you are a member of SCRA you should know better how propaganda made and works, am I right? Good luck, no doubt you'll need that.

Only problem is the newbies get dumped into the middle of it. If we had a Nexus system, with a sandbox to learn how do do stuff, that would make it a lot easier. All the newbies wouldn't be sitting over Manhattan suiciding against players with *much* bigger ships.

' Wrote:So what, you want me to RP this out: my vision is that Liberty isn't fascist at all, all these are lies. They pretend we are against freedom of speech, I only restrain those who begins spouting messages supporting terrorism and piracy - and hoh, fascism - and hoh, everyone agrees.
What is that? What should I do? In fact, do I have any option?

While i'm staying out of liberty as much as i can, i'd like to pipe in again on that (yeay for annoying newbies like me \o/ ). Note that i'm not in liberty shouting 'fascit, fascist', because as far as i'm concerned, there's already enough of that going around. Anyhow...
The weapons licensing was the drop that made the barrel spill. Follow my train of thought from the PoV of a trader for a sec:
- It was just decided on by a military-ish faction that takes on police work as if they were cops
- In fact, we have Navy acting as cops all over the system
- LSF, an intelligence branch, is also *very* present and very visible
- The general tone when they speak up is stuff like "protecting the civilians of liberty everyday from treats unknown to them" or "represents all that is free in this world of inequalities and untruths of character. We stand where others wont, we fight what they say is a losing battle", "the most advanced naval fleet in Sirius " - Propaganda at it's best
- They might be different factions, but they're Liberty Law when seen from outside, operating in secrecy (Lack of accountability), and/or with a monopol on power.
- What you de facto see in Liberty is a whole slew of vastly superior vessels, enforcing police law. Excessive presence of excessive power.
(intermission: no, i'm not saying there should be less SA/LPI/LSF present, i'm just commenting on what impression that gives)
On to the legal codex:
- Ban on anything threatening the power monopol. Mercenaries are barred, BH only allowed if they have previously proven to proactively assist the powers that be
- Restrictions on Weapons and Weapon trade
- No details on how fines, taxes and registration fees are being used
- A large, massively mined & guarded area noone is allowed to go near, on pain of death
- 'Shoot first, ask questions later' attitude on crafts whichs IFF cons enemy (which might be a small malfunction)
- Excessive fines for minor infractions, no possibilty for the fining officer to adjust for special circumstances
- Wanton - or random - penalties that don't make much sense. It's less illegal to sell a gun to a known pirate, then to deal in counterfeight software [there may be a very good historical RP reason for that, but it doesn't make sense if you don't knwo what that reason might be]
- No appeal. It's pay or die (including temporary inability to pay)
etcetc..
In short: Oppressively visible militarized forces doing police work, enforcing prohibitive laws, excessive fines, with no way to appeal, and being shot being a very quick reaction to any form of noncompliance.
Sounds like Rheinland ^_^
I'm not saying that's what liberty should be, i'm not even saying that's what it is right now - just mentionng that it can very easily be perceived the same way Rheinland forces are. We expect it from Rheinland though (they're very clear about the 'comply or die' attitude), but seeing it in Liberty is a shock to most traders passing through.
PS: no, i don't really think 5-15m is an excessive fine.
"You voted for it, in free and fair elections, I might add. For gun nuts, you sure whinge like a bunch of complete and utter hippies. Now keep it peaceful or we'll have to to intervene, kids, understand?"
Or... you could do what real soldiers do. Ignore it until shots are fired or serious threats present themselves. Just ignore every word. Keep an eye out for trouble. I mean, come on, it's not like you couldn't see a set up hitting that protest from 50 miles off. It was certain to happen!
-Ban on anything threatening the power monopol. Mercenaries are barred, BH only allowed if they have previously proven to proactively assist the powers that be
Mercs has been unbanned.
- Restrictions on Weapons and Weapon trade
... tell me, in all logic, if it make sense? I mean, we are talking about weapons! I don't know, but I think even in the states you need to have a liscence to carry one, now we are talking about selling them!
- No details on how fines, taxes and registration fees are being used
Well, myself I don't even know how penality fees are used by our actual police department. But, Praetyre made a bureau of question for civilian, why don't anyone ask?
- A large, massively mined & guarded area noone is allowed to go near, on pain of death
Well, what might I say, military base of top importance... Rheinland, if you recall from SP, had a ultra secret shipyard as well even though it wasnt guarded by mines, but by high-radiation asteroid field.
- 'Shoot first, ask questions later' attitude on crafts whichs IFF cons enemy (which might be a small malfunction)
Hum, most people does that. Not many of the players thinks about IFF malfunction too. And what if the pirate engage first? Unfortunately, not everyone RP the same way. If it was the case, then everything would be much easier, but there are priates that engage first, so you cant take any chance by trying to RP.
Now, when you scan the ship and it comes back as pirate ship too, what might I say... you are OBVIOUSLY suspect...
- Excessive fines for minor infractions, no possibilty for the fining officer to adjust for special circumstances
I'm not too sure on this case. Though admit it, anything below 10 millions isn't that much credits in freelancer.
- Wanton - or random - penalties that don't make much sense. It's less legal to sell a gun to a known pirate, then to deal in counterfeight software [there may be a very good historical RP reason for that, but it doesn't make sense if you don't knwo what that reason might be]
Don't really know what you mean here, but seems to me a gun, is more harmful than a software.
- No appeal. It's pay or die (including temporary inability to pay)
etcetc..
I admit this might seems harsh, but that's in my opinion, a game-sided problem. It is very hard to imprison someone in the game, unless both party are very honest in their rp. Let's say you force the other one to land. You'd have to rp out that you are putting the guy in prison and all - but, nothing restrains him from launching when you go away on patrol. He just might say he have rped out he escaped from prison - not very realistical, a bit powergaming, but, it's rp. So, you can only make this a certainty by destroying the ship.
anyway, @tree, when I'll be done with my works and all I'll try something new to turn the tide. Had that little project in my head since a while, will see if it works.
