I'm Badger, new player as of last week, I now fly a Raven Claw and can be seen on most evenings GMT.
Right, now on topic-
I've played on this server long enough to speak to a lot of players about clans and faction and I can't pick between them. The problem I see is apart from specific RP events there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of RP interaction.
I'll explain what I mean: I caught the tail end of the Excalibur hunt at the weekend and it was very well organised (great job guys!), with plenty of good team play even though the hunting party consisted of all different factions / clans. Great fun!
So why don't I see this anywhere else?
With the exception of maybe CUFF who (though general opinion seems to be they're griefers) at least take a solid stand point, no other clan seems to do much of anything. I've spoken to several players who are either unhappy, indifferent or even completely out of touch with their own clans, and I see a problem.
Although as I can tell through this forum a lot of you are all friends and know what's going on, unless you do a lot of reading in this forum it's extremely difficult to know. I have trouble keeping up with single players as they switch between seemingly unrelated nicks every other hour, this kind of confusion can easily alienate new players.
Rather than go off and create yet another rival clan, I believe that only adds to the problem because this simply adds more tags and blurs the lines between one faction and the next. I believe the existing factions simply need to be better defined. Your thoughts?
Well, my 2 cents, restoring a monthly credit fee for the ownership of of faction home systems would ensure trading, make it so that money must be generated by clan tagged traders/ships only. That way it would give pirates a targets to hit, creating a sort of economy for roleplaying enforcing escorts and encouraging the hiring of mercs.

Exactly JnD, I read all the rules and things about pirating and roleplay on this server but all I see is trader after trader after trader making money for themselves. That's all well and good, but anyone can do that in singleplayer!
Are the faction fees already in effect? Brilliant concept but obviously more work for admins, so I understand if they're unwilling to take it up.
I figured the two factions i'm in are fairly obvious...
The Rhinland Military (RM, actually started and run by Angel) represent Rhinland. They police it, defend it, and if necissary go to war for it. Simple, no?
The other would be the Phantom Empire. Basicly a pirate faction, they attack the houses and hide with the pirates. There is a lot of role play behind it, but there's a simple version for ya.
This is the real true story of rock and roll; it was not about anything more then, how to live your life, as a gangster, in sartorial splendor, and turning the world into a place where normality would never return again...- Malcolm McLaren
Hi guys, thanks for your replies and I appreciate your point Jamez but what I'm trying to say is that type of gameplay accounts for maybe 75% of everything happening in the server most of the times I log on, I rarely ever see a group of Phantoms gang up to ambush the NY - Delta trade routes or an RM fleet standing ground against the AW's flying through their space (factions used there for illustrative purposes, I can't remember whether they're allied or hostile offhand).
I didn't mean "define" the faction literally, I meant in-game, promote a proper AW vs RM vs SF vs whoever kind of atmosphere.
Hm... Not a bad idea, but the hard part is getting everyone involved...
The problem with this is usually that pirates can't hunt people because they just simply run and can't be stopped...
The problem with defending is I usually end being the only RM/Phantom/etc., other than maybe Kane and Angel on.... Not to mention I can't afford to make a RM ship, yet....

Er... how can phantoms gang up and ambush a trade route when most traders log off or switch char or trade route as soon as 2 phantoms group up ANYWHERE.
Thats the unmentioned down side of being a terrorist/pirate group.
Plus not many people actually WANT to fight each other even if RP says they have to, for example kusari and britonian military NPCs fight each other in the tau 31 and 29 systems but the SF (britonia) and the DVL (kusari) won't even shoot at each other.
Then there are the traders who just cough up the money and then the phantoms have nutting left to do but sit there and watch as the ships fly past....
HEHE why switch charictors when you can buy passage...
But i dont know what you mean badger...
several people here you will notice are attempting to correct this allready i know nightfall recently renamed a bunch of acouts for roleplay resons ad I am going to soon as I decide on names and get my laptop back.
Kane also RP's a lot or at least the times iv seen him online and James RP's a lot as well.
