Okay, flood post aside from earlier when I was teasing Geoff about it.
There are actual issues with these new sounds, they don't fit, they sound off, and the cruise sounds which is applied for some of the transports is really off, and the file sizes are huge. They're not compressed. The update was 20.08 MB. The sounds take up 17.7 MB and the bitrates are at 1536 kbps, everything else from Vanilla is 32kbps, which is - eh, you can figure that one out.
No offence but these really sound like they belong to some plane war game lmao. They don't have any 'energetic' feeling, and another thing I want to comment on; My SRP engine was actually changed too, seriously? Also not sure if the it's the rumble being too noisy, but the pitch change on the engines don't even happen when you accelerate or deaccelerate. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not in favour of having these engines.
But yes, to summon it up:
-It doesn't fit the game, it sounds like it's for planes.
-It's uncompressed
-It's too noisy
-Some cruiseup sounds aren't nicely timed.
-My SRP engine file was modified.
Another suggestion is to add a comment for each engine section in the .ini file to be seperated by the designated engine class, so less chance of engines being muddled up, like what happened with the CR one.
The ending cruise effect for cruisers is literally a thunderbolt. The sounds took up a majority of the update and they really don't fit the environment,
The issue is that any sort of audio modifications are a matter of taste. While the edits were no doubt seen as good by the creator and no doubt will find mod users who agree - it is more befitting an audio swagpack, so to speak.

They won't be for everyone, so why weren't they put in an optional soundpack? Why does everyone need them? They don't belong as far as I'm concerned. Sure he put good work in to them but the reality of it is it was forced on people who aren't going to enjoy it. Why the base sounds for a mod that's supposed to expand on the vanilla universe weren't kept to their vanilla roots, especially engine effects, is beyond me.
As pointed out, sound changes have always been a matter of taste. I think it's better to have downloadable packs so users can customise the non-cheatable parts of the game to their liking.
I actually agree with all of the above posts including the OP by @"Auzari" .. The sounds do not sound fine.
I believe having these sounds added as optional sound packs that can be allowed or disallowed maybe on the discovery launcher or anywhere else possible, would be a very good idea
The sounds as mentioned above is and will always be a matter of taste.
I would like thank the creator of those sounds, and that is because you spent efforts and time for making those for us.
Don't be disheartened, I appreciate your efforts a lot. Thank you again and please consider the optional sound packs idea.
As a sound modder, I'll agree with @Alley, @sindroms and @Vendetta on this one. Freelancer is quite an easy game for sound/music modding/editing, you can basically pick the sound that you like, convert it into .wav and replace the original sound/music with it. It's all a matter of taste. Sadly, .ini editing restriction also affects sound/music modding alot, but you have to deal with it.
I would love to see improved visuals and audio become a standard option via the launcher - just like the Bloom Mod.
