Yeah, I know it's been covered in several posts but I felt I needed to put a point across. I personally feel Huegenots are far too exploitable in this current release, much the same as how battleship shields can be manipulated onto smaller vessels. Instead of continuing the moaning and whining (that's all too commonplace recently :0P ) I think we should stop trying to skirt around the issue, and do what is truly honourable.
Outlaw Huegenots.
Ooooh that touched a nerve with a whole lot of you I'm sure :0D
Before you spark up your torches and tie me to a stake, let me validate my opinion. Firstly, the Huegenot is unquestionably an exploitable ship. Of course Battleship shields can be fitted, it can also be outfitted with a full compliment of the wildly unbalanced tizona turrets. Of course any player could do the same to other ships (i think?) but the Huegenot has become the staple example of this style of play.
Those reasons alone are obviously not enough to outlaw pilots of a good ship, so why else does the Huegenot stand out? Improved handling characteristics over other cruisers is another benefit that explains why so many players are drawn to this ship. I understand the appeal, it is undeniably a good looking ship and I hope it is kept and improved in this mod.
The real exploit I see with this ship is it's hit-box. It may only be a small advantage, but it is a wholly unfair and thoroughly exploited advantage. In a galaxy where every single hit may make the difference between glorious victory or crushing defeat, I believe resorting to using a Huegenot like this is completely dishonourable.
Therefore I call out to all of the players here, regardless of your stance on the issue. We all know there's a problem, so let's all be civil about it and simply not use the Huegenot until it is balanced in a future release (pleeease Igiss). I only hope you guys think the same way, there's far more honour in defeating opponents in "inferior" ships anyway ;0D .
It would require that people sell the ship and get something else. It would also require EVERYONE who uses the server to have read or registered on the forums.
Which means that this idea is, unfortunately, not going to work as there are people on the server who will not or have not even bothered to look at the forums, plus we have to TRUST players.
The players exploiting bugs in the huegenot and the game are not going to do this just because it'd make the game fairer and more balanced, if they're exploiting bugs in a ship and the game then they want to win AT ANY COST. So they're not going to be that trust-worthy, are they?
When this was needed before, due to alterations to a ship, we had server messages asking, no telling players to sell it and buy it again.
There were a quite few who didn't bother, either because they didn't care or they just didn't see the messages.
If we remove the ship entirely the game will crash whenever someone launches using it, and if we stick it somewhere so it's unbuyable people will still not buy a different, more balanced ship.
Which means that if it is made unbuyable or removed igiss or wolf or angel would have to go through the entire player database to find and change all the characters that still have one.
This sounds to me like a long, tedious job.
So the only real way of stopping it at the moment would probably be turning the huegenot into a useless ship and making it buyable on some base that no-one can land at, like the lost battlestar...
Like I said your idea is good and I agree that it should be done until we can come up with someway of preventing players from exploiting it.
Unfortunately any solutions based on trusting players or asking them to do something just won't work as there'll always be at least one person who doesn't care or didn't see the messages.
Okay. Here we go with the Huegenot bashing again. You make good points badger, you do.
The huegenot had a lobotomy before in the name of balance. That's all fine and dandy. There are those who wish to exploit the advantages the Huegenot has to offer. But not all of us...I can think of many people who use one, and use them the way they are meant to be used.
When you have a pirate reputation..there are only a couple capital ships you can get your hands on. The huegenot is one of them. And if you don't feel like playing pinball to get to the Omicrons (or anywhere else for that matter), you're going to use the Huegenot!
I, for one, do not use my Huegenot for PvP. It's strictly for NPC bashing. It's not set up to contend with the 2 (two) people that i've seen with souped up Huggys. The huegenot is a cruiser, therefore should have a CRUISER sheild. That only makes sense. And Huegenots are not the only ship equipped with tizzys! But basically you want the Huegenot made into a useless hunk of metal?
I'm really getting tired of the witchhunt of ALL Huegenot pilots. Not to mention the fact that it's hard enough as it is to be a pirate on the server...I won't even open up that can of worms!
*goes off to light her torch and find some kindling wood* :P
Caylith: You seem to miss the point there. It's all very well you using the ship honourably and not even against other players, but the fact is the hit-box is far too small making the entire ship horribly unbalanced in the discovery universe. I don't find any fun in choosing a ship that has such an unfair advantage even against NPC's (for instance, on all vanilla servers I tend to use a Dragon vs everyone elses Eagles and Sabres, which makes for much more interesting battles even if I might lose a few).
The amount of work involved in removing or modifying the Huegenot at all whilst the server still runs 4.79 is massive, I agree marauder, which is why I ask players, as politely as possible, to just avoid using the Huegenot. Remember seeing a player with that massive dark cruiser floating about also entices newer players to find it (unavoidable with NPC Huegenots I know, but has a lesser effect than actual players using it I'm sure).
As for pirating, as far as I know there are no rules against building up a character with legitimate missions and trading and using ships other than those assigned to your particular pirate faction, as long as you earn their tag and stick in-character once you're done.
I have a Huegenot and love it. I use it only for system exploration and NPC bashing because it is so manueverable. BUT, I see the problem and have a possible solution.
Advantages of the Huegenot:
14 turrets, no other cruiser has this
Huge energy pool (guns rarely use up the energy)
Highly manueverable
small hit box thus, hard to hit
looks cool!
Possible solution:
Make the Huegenot a battleship
In crease it's mass and hit box size
Now the ship turns like a battleship, has the same number of turrets as a
battleship and, a similar sized hit box.
It seems like this would take the least amount of modifying.

Regardless of any other arguments, the hitbox on the Huegenot does need to be fixed. I have seen the effects myself and I really do not go sniffing for PvP much. What puzzles me is that NPC Huegenots seem to be fine as far as I can tell.
I'm fairly sure that NPC Huegenots still suffer the same problem. For a test, try flying into one with a smaller ship, if memory serves you'll notice you don't actually collide until you're inside the Huegenot.
Huegenots being re-classified as a Battleship is a nice idea, though isn't the Osiris already the outer-worlds flavour Battleship? In my opinion pirate ships should be smaller by definition, disorganised motley crews wouldn't be as capable as that of House militaries. The exception being the Osiris as it is an Order ship isn't it? I forget my freelancer heritage :0)
