Christo stood in Sunny's office, his background as a Warrant Officer closer to the surface than usual in his bearing and posture.
"Thanks for tha meetin, boss. I know this is short notice, but I think it needs dealin wit right now.
I think tha club is missin an opportunity because of tha Bering crisis."
He paused to see how Sunny was reacting, then went on when Sunny made a little hand motion.
"Frank obviously has a bug up his arse about Gallia, an it looks like Coronado is just driftin right now, so why not make him the lead for our actions against tha Frogs an ask him ta stage from Coronado?
Tha puts him closer ta them, gets you a Chapter boss again an, hopefully, gets us past tha young bucks feelin like they need ta go for His arse.
It also revitalizes us in tha theatre. Hell, if Frank can get it workin, we might even be able ta hook up wit the Privateers like Anteres was workin on a while back, yeah?"
"Yeah you've got a point, there." Sunny nods. There was a bottle of whiskey on his desk and he offered him a glass as he motioned Christo to sit down.
"Hmm... yeah, you really do have a point, but he's in a bad mood right now, isn't he?" Sunny paused, thinking. "I'll be down for the idea but I'd need help getting him in the mood for it again. Either help or just catch him at the right time. I don't see why not, though. It would make things a hell of a lot easier."
Christo took a slug from the Molly Whiskey, then looked down at his wrist. The bracelet scanned his retina, flashed an acknowledgement and connected him to the base comms.
"Frank, you selfish sod, get your ugly arse down to Sunny's office. I think we got a proposal for you.
If nothin else, come have a glass oh whiskey before ya leave."
Sunny leaned back in his chair, relaxing and taking his own glass of whiskey to take a sip.
"So Christo, we haven't actually chatted normally in a while. What's knew with you?"
He reached under the table top into a drawer and pulled out two rolls of synth weed and a lighter. "Fancy a joint? It's what I keep for a good occasion."
"Thanks for tha offa, Sunny, but tha whiskey is enough fa me.
As ta whut's new, nae much. Been tinkin wit a Grizzly ta see whut I can come up wit, but I'm nae sure tha club does escort work anymore, yeah?"
Christo took a sip of the whiskey.
"Other an tha, mostly thinkin about tha engine for tha 'Flier. Seems ta me we could get more outta tha design, but I am missin how. It works, an it is steady sure, but we're nae gettin quite tha output it seems we could.
Tha second stage could handle another 20% plasma injection, but tha first stage is maxxed right now an I got no idea how ta produce more plasma wit tha laser igniter."
"Pshh... your loss." Sunny smirks a little, taking one of the two spiffs on the table and the lighter and moments later lighting it as he perched it on the corner of his lips. He took a long breath and exhaled the smoke out.
"Escorts? We still do them... The usual ones with the IMG anyway. It's a great way to build relations especially with the trade groups. More escorts out there would always be nice to have." He puffs some more.
"As for the Flier... yeah. I'll leave it to you and Hyun for the most part to see if we can squeeze any more out of it. I'm sure there is some way you can do it. I'm quite impressed so far. Have you considered maybe the rate at which the fuel is introduced or... the rate at which it is expelled... I dont know..." Sunny shrugs, enjoying his smoke.
"Yeah, if you depend on tha laser, we got tha intake maximized, but nothin comes ta mind for makin a faster process. Tha specs all say we could get more burn but tha laser caps out afore we get tha unless we risk punchin holes in tha engine body with tha igniter."
Frank reached Sunny´s private office, bottle of top shelf whiskey in one hand, patch in the other and his rucksack slung over his shoulder. He leaned close to the comms speaker near the door, spoke his name, and the door opened. He walked into the office and noticed the smell of the spliff, moved over towards Cristo and dropped the bottle on Cristo´s lap.
"That should show you just how selfish I am you ungrateful SOB." He grinned at Cristo and then walked over to Sunny. "This belongs to someone else" he said as he dropped the Bering patch on the table and in one swift move plucked the joint from Sunny´s hand, dropped his rucksack on the floor and moved over to sit down on sofa across from them.
"I need this more than you do, right now." he said and proceeded to take a long drag off of the spliff. He held the smoke of a second or two and exhaled. "Weak ass weed Sunny, you need a better connection if this is the best you got."
Christo looked down at the bottle, and, while the trademark lazy grin remained in place, his eyebrows rose.
"Arranmore Very Rare, 812??! You're sure you're wantin ta part wit this, Frank?"
At Franks's terse nod, Christo carefully set the bottle on Sunny's desk and walked over to the bar. Placing three fingers below the old fashion key lock, he rapped the flip up station door and heaved upward. Without fuss or bother, the door lifted, exposing Sunny's prized crystal drinking set. Christo grabbed three of the whiskey glasses and a towel. While he quickly dusted the glasses, he glanced over to see Sunny's mouth slightly open and a shocked look on his face.
"That was you? I figured Hyun and his high tech had figured a way into the thing."
Christo's grin got a touch wider. "Tha new penny? He weren't up ta stealin from tha old man for at least anothah five years from respect. I jus coundna do it while I were gone."
After pouring the glasses and handing them around, Christo's face got solemn for a moment and he raised the glass in a toast. "To Absent Friends."
"Yeah.... you enjoyin' the trace of my lips on that spiff, Franky? I didn't know you rolled that way." He smirks back after raising his glass to the toast and taking a swig of the drink and placing the glass on the table, having just a little bit left. He takes the other spiff he had on the table and light it, holding it between his fingers as he drags another hit and sighs. "The badge seems to not be as easy to leave with me. It somehow has a mind of its own?" He says, looking down at it on his desk.
