I had this problem once when I played with my Maltese allied with an Bretonian (offical allowed by ID) against Royal Navy. Than Crayter joined and we needed to kill the group, ut all figther togther against Royal Navy - this cannot be a good solution.

If you do not aid them, you are worthless outside of extortion potential.
If you aid us, you will be treated with respect.
Bump. If this thread is considered old enough to be a grave dig, I'll be happy to make a new one on the exact same topic, but I will not rest until this is done, or a satisfying explanation for the necessity of this rule is given.
I don't think the latter will happen though, because both staff and players seemed to agree with my assessment of the rule whenever I've brought it up.
I was reminded of this because of a few things, such as a Unioner request related to said rule (OFL only link), as well as a situation in the Sigma war in which BD were unable to enter a group with Kusari lawfuls, even though they had perfectly solid inRP motivations to shoot the same people in this specific situation.
I completely agree with this thread. We should remove those artificial and useless limitations.

Before we make a movement towards removing this ID limitation, I'd like to know the Admins/Moderators' views on why this feature was even here in the first place. I feel like 'twould be opening a can of worms if we don't address the very issue that caused this rule in most ID's to be there. Think to the "5 Monkeys and the Ladder" social experiment.
Now, I'm not saying I don't agree with the idea of removing the rule, but I just yearn everyone to sprinkle a grain of caution on this first, before making any bold moves.
