A small smirk was seen in her lips, as Victor mentioned her father. She knew exactly what had transpired between the two of them and while one could scratch it off to fatherly concern, it was still somewhat aggravating that her father would have acted like she was a seventeen year old girl and in need of a set of adult eyes to veto her decisions. However the message was not from her father.
"Yes, it was Jacob. I was pushed up to Commodore again, it seems."
Her jaw tensed somewhat as her eyes looked down onto Helene. Hard decisions would have to happen in the future. But not today, she decided. Today, life would get a respite from hard calls. Today, Kaze would live a normal life, as circumstances could permit it. She got up and walked towards Helene and Victor.
He smiled at her promotion, partly as a congratulations partly because he knew she didn't like it, preferring instead to hide away in the dark. The tales of Father Brown Helene replied without looking up It's about a Priest who solves Murders. Victor could hardly contain his smile, a priest who solved murder...how much nobler could one get?
She nodded, remembering the book. A little too fantastic, and borderline religious. Not a good book, she thought. Peering into the pages, Helene was fixed reading the word silently.
I like the investigation...when Father B. is looking into things, sleuthing around..going places he shouldn't, trying to find the truth. But... he said, looking up, a confused and puzzled expression on her face There is something I don't understand.
And that is? Victor asked
He always tries to help people, even when they're bad, he always makes an attempt to....save their soul.
Is that not what Priests are supposed to do? Mrs M responded
Not like this..he wants them..the bad people, to admit to it, he wants to help, never forcing them into it...why would he do that? can he not see evil?
Kaze replied, sitting in the Kusari style nearby. She eyes Victor and then back at the small child.
"He believes that everybody is never truly evil. And those that are.. Well, even those deserve a chance. Slightly naive, but all means, a good thing to believe in."
The girl looked at Kaze, her mind trying to comprehend what Kaze said, and her small eyebrows contorted as the questions and assumptions arose and were put to rest.
"There are evil, evil people out there. But giving them a chance is something most people do. Because they believe as well. However..."
Kaze smirked and poked her nose with her bionic hand, cutting off Helene's trail of thought.
I like father Brown Helene concluded He doesn't always succeed but he tries.
As you should. He's a rare man, even in books. You should always try to be...better even if it's hard work, even if you fail. Victor said, pouring himself another drink of whiskey from his flask. But for now, all you need to do, is find out who did it. he said referencing the murderer in her story
He will he always catches them, and they always get what they deserve. she said returning her attention to the book once more.
And what's that? Victor asked, not really remember the story from his childhood.
Her eyebrow rose at the remark of the small child. She was her mother's daughter, that much was clear. Kaze's jaw tensed and she looked at Victor before looking back at Helene.
"It seems you like to read about the hunt, Helene. And it's conclusion."
The memories of her own past came in the form of an Inferno Nyx emerging from the charred remains of capital vessels. Another life. Another time.
"You see, I have met people that were bounty hunters. Mercenaries. Many of them were all about the conclusion. Getting their just reward for their work."
Victor was about to open his mouth, clearly to cut her off regarding the just reward in her sentence. She kept him silent with a finger, away from the Helene's sight.
"Very few... The best, really, did not cared about the conclusion. They cared about the path. They wanted to hunt. What do you prefer, Helene? The hunt for the evil men, or the hangings?"
She sat at Helene's side, caressing the grass and raising her head with her eyes closed, feeling the breeze brush her skin. The girl blinked her eyes at Kaze but soon resumed her reading.
"We do not have much time left, Victor."
Kaze said, still with her eyes closed. Like she was basking at the peace and quiet around.
Yes, actually I do. He said in a somewhat melancholic voice. I have to leave, I'm going back up..north he said, trying to make plain what he was saying whilst trying not to give anything away. I have a few unfinished things to take care of before I can return. Aside from that however, no, no plans.
