Kaze was already awaken for the past six hours. Her spartan sleep regime coupled with the intense need of exercise due to her bionics and education always made her something of an odd one when seen by her fellow soldiers.
The alarm was sounded minutes before and she was already in her pilot suit, using only the Commodore pin on the neck lapel of the suit and finishing the last check up on her Marlin. The Council tech, amazingly, fit well with the Core ship and many in an instance, its chainfiring Bretonian and Council cannons scored outright victories against enemy craft.
The order reached by the PA to report to the bridge and she promptly jumped from the cockpit to the metal floor, garnering some looks at the sight of her landing a ten meter drop as it was a meter one. A quick run through the corridors and taking two lifts, four minutes later, Commodore Dagon was being announced on the bridge. Saluting, she stood in attention.
Ah, Commodore. He said, turning back to her, handing her a sealed letter. Your orders. Please go to the conference room before you open them, there is a gentleman there who will be able to explain any questions you may have. Now you'll have to excuse me. He said before turning back to the helm.
An eyebrow rose as the sealed letter touched her hand. The Admiral was being cryptic but then again she always felt that Edmund Steiner was the most artful of all the family, delivering the least information as he could about current events and his thoughts. The paper was plain, no visible origin, the weight indicated only one page and it was sealed without a symbol. Nodding, she placed the letter in her inner suit pocket and saluted, her eyes scanning the bridge and what was happening.
"More secrets."
Was her only thought as her feet took her to the conference room.
Victor sat at the end of the table, reading a newspaper he had found in Edmund's office while looking for his brothers tobacco stash, having arrived in the conference room a few minutes before Kaze opened the door and walked in. He put the paper down, revealing himself to her. Close the door he said somewhat coldly, waiting until she did before smiling at her broadly. This must be a bit of a surprise for you.
Kaze looked at her wristpad, and the tracker was working splendidly. Looking back at Victor, and scanning the room, she smirked, finally content they were actually alone.
"Not really, you arrived fifteen minutes ago."
Closing the distance, she just kissed him outright.
Hello to you too he said quietly. I'm glad to see you are keeping well, but before we continue my dear, I must ask you read the note the Admiral has given you, you see they are actually your orders, and they are particularly interesting.
Kaze rose an eyebrow. From being re-assigned, to a demotion, her mind wished it wasn't forced shore leave. Although she did enjoyed the calm and relax with Victor, she needed to be in the front line, she needed to do her best for Bretonia. Removing the letter, she looked at it and in an non-customary style, she handed it to Victor.
"It is best if you do it."
Her nose however twitched, the smell of tobacco rising through the receptors and into her brain. She looked around and focused her eyes on Victor. Stepping very close, she started to take in the air around Victor and eyed him with a mild annoyed look at him.
Yes yes He said unfolding the paper I know you don't like me smoking but I haven't been able to have one for the whole week, Edmund nicked the good Pipe tobacco. Anyway.. He said, changing the subject quickly while he read the letter. To Commodore Kaze Dagon. As follows are your new Orders, to be carried out without delay. Report to Her Majesties Ship Sterling At zero eight hundred hours tomorrow, to take command of said vessel and it's respective battle-group and proceed to the Omega-49 system where upon you shall begin annexing the system and it's population for the Crown. Signed Fleet Admiral Sir Jacob McIntire.
He put the paper down and looked at her while relighting his pipe.
Jacob did said it was to be soon. Taken slightly aback from the news, she did not expected to be this soon.
"Well."
Define ROE's. Secure the AO. Initiate Logistical & Tactical support. Meet the unit CO's. Revise the troops. Re-order into more flexible units. Recon reports. Supply chains. Patrol routes. Coordinate, arrange and deploy one point eight million veteran troops into a foreign world. The first real time Bretonia has decided to attack outside of Bretonia in over ten years and they put her, the Full Metal Bitch at the helm.
"Shit."
Five hundred and fifty thousand so called zoners. Fifty thousand Corsairs. Two hundred thousand Bretonians. Coalition. Hessians. Mollys. Planetary bombing? Blitz? Complete and utter annihilation of any opposition? The political bodies of the government were no doubt already moving. Contact with them is needed. Less than two seconds have passed, and she looked at Victor, her mind resetting on the present.
"I will need of you, lest I decide for the path with the least resistance."
He gave her a brief but small smile, Alas I cannot my dear. My request for a transfer was denied and I am to report back to the Arc Royal after this meeting, I was allowed to come explain the situation to you only because my Uncle allowed it. He touched her hand Should you be so desperate for company however, know that my brother will be on the planet, since this is likely to be very unpopular with the local Zoners. So speak with him if you need to, otherwise stay safe. Now, any questions?
