I'm unsure if I ever expressed this before, but I feel it's slightly relevant at the moment. I was recruited into the XA- after a roleplay encounter in game. At the time, it was just Evo, me and another person. Both of them burned out and stopped playing. But for whatever reason, I always seemed to enjoy flying around as a Xeno. I enjoyed how the faction was written, I just have a natural soft spot for underdogs. It's because I loved it as a faction, that I continued to play it even if it was on my own and with no development.
Having expressed this, I'll take your suggestion seriously and drastically cut back on unnecessary political rhetoric and focus more on the simpler side of our faction's nature as disaffected xenophobic terrorists.
Credit where credit is due - thank you for giving multiple fair fights to our up and coming generation of players lately, and even just focusing on RP and PvE in Kepler without shooting when you could, was a nice change of pace -46th
Sincerely, I must also thank the 46th for being responsible for this recent wave of new players who actually play the game according to its spirit. Our policy for fights was and always will be simple, we play according to our situation at the time and try to take it easy on people that we know are new. I also enforce a no retreat policy as far as possible, with the only exception being during circumstances where things are not fun for one reason or another.
As your resident disaffected xenophobes, we will always be happy to lend substance to an otherwise shallow portrayal of the Liberty underworld.
I chose this way of expressing my unpleasant experience rather than playing sanctionlancer.
A few days ago, while roaming in Colorado system, I have encountered a hacker, a transport and a Xeno gunboat.
After not too long, XA- vessels started to come. To a total of three players from the faction, with the 1ic present.
He has started to conduct his RP with the transport, and my character’s RP is to taunt people, due to ID limitations.Meanwhile one of the players switched to a freighter and the other one approached me, XA-Bull(A Fighter-Bomber ). Guy stood in front of me, so I started moving. Suddenly, without warning, said player started shooting at me, even after I have send him a pm mocking his nonexistent engagement lines, in the hopes he’d understand that what he’s doing is wrong. I have then decided not to fire upon the vessel.
I find this a rather bad look on an official faction, especially when their leader was there present.

[30.05.2022 18:59:54] "Hoarfrost": Just drop it, Kusarian. Leave the cargo in space.

You were given several warnings in roleplay since your character was taunting people in the area. It's not necessary for people to explicitly say "I am engaging" for it to be valid according to the current rule system or just in the course of roleplay either. Discretion is key. And in your case you did rile up the wrong character and stuck around for far too long after being warned.
For your benefit, the current rules state that an engagement must be preceded by at least two lines of roleplay and ten seconds between those lines and the actual firing of your weapons resulting in an engagement. That is it, there are no further stipulations regarding what should be said. But there are standards against being lazy about it. Such as doing things like "I see red. I engage." Which would be looked down upon for obvious reasons.
In your case, you were speaking aggressively to a faction known for aggression, being responded to quite consistently and there were consequences for this. I understand why this might not necessarily be the most pleasant outcome, but it's hardly not logical when you consider the circumstances. I would encourage you to see this from a wider perspective and consider those factors.

I just had to find my way to the forums specifically to thank the faction for a fun and seamless RP experience a couple of days ago in Ontario and beyond, courtesy of XA-Cobra and XA-Scarlet. Was my first day on this server and it's great to see Freelancer still going strong even after all these years. And people like Reeves showing great RP skill, recognizing noobs and acting accordingly while keeping it all suitably iRP!
It was quite the contrast from the only other prior RP encounter I had had that night. It was awkward, but I wasn't well versed enough in server etiquette to react smartly to make it flow more naturally, nor help a fellow newbie (I assume) to get the correct ID for his attempted role. I should get better at this once I familiarize myself with Discovery and get my brain in RP gear again. It's been a while since I played MP games on RP servers.

As I was exploring uncharted systems near Liberty space, a couple of these deranged terrorists caught me off-guard as I was int the middle of testing and configuring a new ship loadout near a Junker base. Xeno fighter wings usually avoid hostile stations, but it seems the ones flying XA-prefixed callsigns toy with their prey. Friggin' psychopaths! After a while of delaying my early grave by negotiating with known terrorists under the cover of station turrets, a lucky coincidence saved the day: Another pilot approached! That gave me the opportunity to slip away while those goons were distracted. I wasn't sure if I could make it out of cruise disruptor range, but I knew it was my one and only shot at getting away.
Soon a grin spread across my face as I taunted them from a safe distance with cruise engines burning brightly on full power. What a test flight. My new ship's countermeasure system was just as unproven as its cruise engines, but luckily it didn't come to that. Thinking back on my luck there, the weapon and target acquisition systems on Xeno ships truly must be held together by nothing more than duct tape and the sheer malice of their pilots.
Nevertheless those XA- ships gave chase, still bloodthirsty and confident on catching me as I made my escape towards civilized space. At a couple of strategic points, I slowed down to see if they were still on my trail. And you know what?
The madmen followed me all the way to the heart of Liberty space--Manhattan orbit! Where is Liberty Police when you need them!? Had to perform an emergency docking on Manhattan ring after one of them engaged me, lucky I didn't burn up in atmosphere. So much for the new and pristine ship. No wonder the first thing new pilots undocking in Pennsylvania see is a warning about Xeno activity, geez. It's not safe out there. All the military buildup from previous conflicts, yet Liberty can't even police its own space!
Hi there. It certainly was a fun little goose chase through Liberty, and I'm glad you enjoyed it for what it was. Please feel free to reach out to us on our discord if you want any help or guidance in the game.
Pre-empting this because we don't have our own feedback thread up yet,
I apologize for the Hacker indie with the good aim who jumped in. I called him (not knowing what ship he was bringing, mind), and wanted either him or Locksmith to go in but not both. I was quite low by the time I realized how stomp-y it was and every time I tried to type to say something I got absolutely eviscerated by Rinkhals.
Anyway, he eventually backed out on his own, and I talked to both him and Locksmith about keeping an eye on that stuff in the future when I'm not able. A big kudos for how that fight started, I'm sorry the way it ended sucked a bit.
