TL is sorta like cruise engines I'd think... I don't see a problem with mop-up so long as you disengage from cruise/TL outside of weapon range and thrust from there on in.
But what about engine kill? I've used that in the past, cruise to about 2k then EK to battle.
I haven't been in many battles this way though...

So long as you don't start shooting while above 200m/s, that sounds fine. If I recall, cruise -> EK -> shoot while above 200 while your opponent is not moving that fast is treated like cruise use in combat. Similar effect, similar treatment.

Dude...I was facing the other way with no shields. That and that had no bearing on this discussion whatsoever.

Huh... what about if you're fighting a couple of pirates in one area of Liberty, then all of a sudden you get a distress call from an ally that a bigger pirate threat has emerged seperate from the fight you're in?
Does running to aid your allies count as fleeing in this situation? Cause situations like this have happened a couple times to me, I've always stayed to finish my fight, but it doesn't usually go well for the others...
Actually the same thing happened to me today, or rather something similar in my [LN] Character. Me and a wing-man (who will remain nameless unless he decides to introduce himself) went to engage a target (who will also remain nameless) that was spotted just of Fort Bush. We got a com from one of the cap ships in the group that we were needed in zone 21. We held off target 1 until the relief arrived, we disengaged target 1 and proceeded to z21. Unfortunately (or fortunately, your pick) the second target disappeared and all was normal. the cap ship cleaned up target 1 and all was quiet for a while. Essentially, both the cap and myself with the wing-man, swapped places, but should the cap ship needed help (eg re-enforcements on the opposing side) would we have been allowed to provide back-up?
I would say no since you would be coming back to fight the same vessel again, meaning re-ingaging.
Had the initial target not been destroyed i think you would of have to leave the system since you did flee from battle.
Why shouldn't he be allowed back in? The fight left him, not the other way around. If the fight jumps to a new system, is it the same fight?
Had a little dust-up a while back with the Corsairs and SCRA. Started out as a couple of indies and some Benitez against the SCRA in Omega5. I got killed, and happily waited out the battle listening through group in Omega52. Well about 1.5 hours later (big battle), there was only one person left from the original fight from our side, and ALL the corsairs were new to the fight (I believe mostly OPG and some [+] at this point).
The fight moved to O52 then, with the SCRA member jumping out to avoid destruction...and the OPG follow through. At this point, the higher-ups told those killed in battle to flee to Omega50 so as not to become part of this battle.
Now, I didn't go back to the battle, it came to me. Also, no individuals that were in the beginning of the fight were there now, AND it was in a new system. The only sticky wicket was a member of our own group was still involved.
Query: Could I at this point jump it? Prudence took over and we did manage to head out to 50 and waited until the invasion force left the area, but it's been on my mind every since.
