A capital ship. Not a damn cap. Get it right. Just because you feel a capital ship is a bad thing, does not mean we all need to suffer because of it. Useful for RP. (Not to mention, useful for finding out who is an indiscriminate moron, but eh.)
Yes, we do, and if we increase trade profits we still invest more time in it than the time we spend trading for a fighter.
For those of use who have bought a capital ship before and do RP and therefore know whether or not we really want it, what is your reasoning behind the ridiculous period of time?
Secondly, yes, I want several capital ships to use as an RP platform. I'll sit high above fights coordinating them as I see fit, to hold meetings with people who I have planned a roleplay with, or to counter capital ship incursions.
I have a siege cruiser that took me 8 hours of trading to get.
I hated every second of it.
And what's wrong with having a capital ship if you roleplay with it? I only have capital ships because they were HANDED to me.
EDIT: And by the way, I have two factions I'm working on, and in one of them I'm planning on funding every member that joins a fully equipped Upholder. Expensive things are expensive, Cawdor.
' Wrote:if you wouldn't you'd spend two hours per week at a max on your trader and thus not need to complain about it. so yes, i DARE.
I gave up on Battleships. They were fodder for bombers and anybody with more than three ships. They always will be. Screw them. I'm sick of flying them. I want to fly liners, trains, haulers. I want to roleplay characters and enjoy it while I watch numbers nicely pile up in my hold. I love(d) my trader(s). My first ship was a Train, and I had more fun on that damn character when I was in the IND than I ever have on any other ship ever. Back when it was worth it I loved trading as much as I loved being a pompous jerk.
EDIT: And since somebody else brought it up, what is wrong with buying a cap? If trading sucks will your RP on the cap improve? No. Why should it? If trading sucks will the RPless idiot stop trading? No. Why? Because he wants to blow stuff up and has nothing better to do than blow stuff up as easily as possible.

I actually -really- like this thread and agree with the sentiments of the original poster, and not because I'm friends with him.
Some of you might know that I used to have a Slave Liner, that I roleplayed with quite considerably much, some of you may also know that this very same ship was one of my favorite characters, as well as my primary source of income, and believe it or not, it takes a crapload of money to maintain just six characters, all in fighters/bombers.
I didn't mind the Slaves/Cardi route, I usually had fun with it and I usually made a decent profit with it, then -somebody- ****ed with it, messed it all up and made it less profitable. Is it still profitable? sure. Do I still want to spend 20/30 minutes flying through pirate or house territory, getting raped sideways for what it's worth now? No, no I don't.
This is not the only route that was previously worth large amounts of money that is now not worth as much be it money wise or time wise.
I've had Miners, I've had Slavers/Smugglers, I've even had lawful traders and my current trader is quasi-lawful.
It got to the point where I had to start selling ships (And not to other people, but going in game, flying to a station and selling ships) because I was so strapped and desperate for cash to maintain the few characters I have, because of the economic crap, in this game.
The economy, both lawful and unlawful, needs to be revised and fixed, for goodness sake, give people some incentive to -want- to fly these routes.
The powers that be want people in game to explore, they want people to not stick to one area, to see every area, the best way to do this is trading, you want us to trade to make money to fund our own ventures...
Then you take away the profit of certain routes, and what? people wonder why when people start complaining about the Disco economy?
Just make routes profitable again.
Oh I know there's routes out there that are profitable if you bounce all over the place i.e
Take this good here, then take that good there, then go here and there and to this place and that place and at the end of an hour you'll have a bajillion credits!
-why- do we have to do that, just to make a decent amount of money?
There's just absolutely no incentive to make people want to do that, other than making alot of money.
Also: On a side note, I think the largest amount of credits I've ever had at one time in my entire time here, was around 600mil, and most of it was given to me by somebody who left Disco and gave me their stuff...
Another addition: I don't normally complain about the way that things in game are managed by the powers that be but...this is one thing I think definantley needs a major fix.
It has becoming a long drag to earn money here, I need to raise a crap load of money to get the full potential out of my RP, and Zapp knows it! If he remembers anyway.
I'm swamped in exams, homework and helping around. I have next to no time to legally (RP wise) raise the capital required to have my fun.
This game is relying too heavily on people ACTUALLY putting 2/3 of their time into trading to get anywhere.
This is not a fun system. This, as said before, is not EVE. Or so I hear.
in light of your arguments (appart from those where you don't make enough cash when only RPing traders:P) I shall adjust my opinion on that matter: I still think that its fair game to earn those 30-40 million an hour when trading alone. However, making mining more efficient (40-50m$/h - similar to the profits of the old diamond-niobium run) thus encouraging people to socialize more and get to learn the rules faster by being introduced to the community earlier, might actually be the best course of action.
Edit: Actually I lied. This was my opinion for the last one and a half years. but xoria blocked the mining lobby because he'd rather have half of sirius on the lanes silently power trading for his own amusement D:<

How fantastic it is, to live in a timezone like mine where over 9000 of my friends are online at the same time.
Anyway, mining should be closer to 60 million per hour, and that should be after it is split between all the people involved in the act.
Note: I do not agree with your trading alone profit.
Edit:

This does not make sense. Do you mean rich people? If not, please explain this.
