Aside from the server being its usual laggy self, there are two explanations that I can see so far. Both involve some kind of problem over where you are at unfortunately...

SBC's line could simply be oversaturated with traffic due to what you just said. Does your friend sit on the same line as you do?

As far as my experiences with WLAN go, even when the software said the signal was super strong and I could get transfers of half a mbit+ easily, that still didn't keep the signal from randomly breaking up sometime for a minute or two... and that kind of a breakup would cause the exact symptoms ingame that you are describing. Try a LAN cable and see what happens?
Connect yourself directly with a cable to that router of yours.
It has been reported before that there simply is too much of loss or instability and connecting via cable instead via wireless helps.

I do not use SBC. He does not use the same ISP either. He is in a different part of the west coast.

No. My wireless router is not the issue. I have used it for many online games with no issues. Including Freelancer with Discovery.
I've just had another really bad bout of lag. And, surprise surprise! It's in the middle of a mission. Also lost all my countermeasures, mines, nanobots and batteries. Also lost the mission reward, lost rep.
This is getting really bad. The only thing keeping me from walking away and forgetting about this altogether is the fact that I really want to play this online. I've enjoyed it before and I can enjoy it again. I'd love to do more than just cargo hauling, but if the game keeps this up that's all I'll be able to do reliably.
Is there a mission event that is consistently happening when the lag starts, like another wing of enemies come in, or the enemies attempt or flee, or anything like that?

and have the same problem... cant doing lvl 5 missions with a gunboat most time, cause NPC just jumpin' around
when i type in /ping i have not more than 50ping... loss and all this stuff are very very very lol like

get a faster internet
new network hardware...
and only have this problem on this server... never on other servers...
i.E. played on an server in america... my ping was about 120-200 but it wasnt laggin' so hard
/EDIT: same problem when i fight against other players... anytime this week i fightet with my liberty bomber against this minier starting ship you get when you make /restart Miner... I LOSE!!! no i am not bad like that in pvp... my aim is almost good... played for years in version 1.0 pvp... but cant hit anything...

Also, have you tried a re-install?
No and yes. In the last instance, it was the first two enemies who came in. I was trying to blast the first enemy, when everything spazzed out. I originally had Discovery 4.84 installed on this computer, tried using the MM to remove it and install 4.85. Game crashed, so I removed it and did a fresh install with the newest version of Discovery. Also note that I can do missions just fine in SP and NONE of these things happen.

I can try. I've been thinking about going to another server but the problem is that there are fewer players (no offense to the other server owners). It will probably have to wait until tomorrow before I try again.
Alright, one last question for both of you for now. What is the player count when you are on the server?
This problem may be caused in part by server load, and as David pointed out we have more players here than on any other server, but that also means we have more server load than any other server.
