Not yet Cawdor, I have done something about what made my trading days enjoyable.
It was interaction with house authorities when I got hailed, stopped and scanned. The BAF even escorted me all the way to Tau-23 from Leeds. The other thing what makes it fun and thrilling is possibility of getting pirated.
Simply I only have fun trading when I interact with other players. When I check the chat window and see there is no one in the systems ahead of me, I don't feel like carrying on on that route. I hate finishing a trade run and realizing I haven't spoken to anyone while crossing 6 systems. One of the solutions is to have more trading ships and switch to other character wherever is a possibility of some PvP interaction (not necessarily a combat situation).
But other factor which I believe is true that Sirius is just too big for 200 players. There are over 120 systems in Sirius. That decreases the chances of meeting other players and makes traveling through empty space so boring. I know many may disagree with me on this however I believe I would have more fun if Sirius wasn't so big.

Nope, the fact that nearly half the server hangs around in new york decreases the chances of meeting other players.
Unless, you happen to be in new york of course.

Liberty is a different story, new players start there and that makes major population of Liberty.
' Wrote:1. How are those players penalized compared to other players?
They aren't.
It's their own will to want something that costs a lot. I'm sure any player can think of something that he could use a lot of money for and come come with good reason.
2. For pirates to actually pirate (and not just pew pew) there needs to be some bonus (= money to get), for traders to actually care about being pirated, they need to fear to loose something. If each pirate asked for 10 credits, then any trader would pay without trying to escape/shoot/bargain => nobody will pirate.
As mentioned before, trading keeps the server alive. Give everyone 200 mil per hour profit.. and 99% of all player interaction will be pvp in fixed locations.
The issue is not that making money takes time. The issue is that making money should be fun and encourage player interaction.
Actually, one of the issues is how much time it takes to make money. That said, I don't think anyone here is promoting a 200 mil per hour trade route. Nor is anyone demanding BSes should only cost 200 mil and a used jawbreaker. Not much point fixing one extreme with another.
People have suggested ways to help make earing credits more enjoyable and interactive. In this thread and others. Options are out there and some of them might even be worth a try. My own suggestion is cutting all ship and equipment prices by 30%. It's a significant reduction that shouldn't play havoc on trade behavior. Traders would still fear pirates and pirates would still have an impetus to pirate. And Xoria's economy remains untouched.
But, in the long haul, methinks the "grinding for credits" -philosophy appeals most to the folks that matter the most on this server.
I am annoyed with this system, I wasn't here prior to the revamp on the economy, so it has been quite tough to scrape out a living in comparison to what you guys had previously. I am incredibly patient, but I can not stand powertrading/mining just to try and keep my characters afloat, as I lack the time to maintain a decent amount on each one, I would also thoroughly enjoy trading if I could trade what I want to where I want (Within relative RP interests) I know I can, but the profit is so meagre is just leads to me boring myself with powertrading, but like I say, I am patient and I can wait.
Dream Theater - "Sabre120 and Jongleur officially win. That is all."

No one should have to rely on a spare half hour here and there to ensure they have a cash flow.
but if thats all you have, thats all you have. suck it up and grind away
' Wrote:I enjoy trading. I RP trade. I run the routes that fit my factions RP. The profits are pitiful.
this is an rp server, not a cap-ship server
' Wrote:The only way I can make a good cash flow is running my power trade routes and while they are technically inRP, running them over and over and over and over again (and they aren't Point to Point, they are chained) is boring and not really inRP.
if it makes you money, then you have to accept that the life of a long-dstance trucker is lonely and boring.... why should a long-distance space trucker have excitement?

Disco is slowly becoming a grind fest. Many people will simply leave this server if this trend continues. They are asking for a fix before they reach that point because they enjoy this community/mod.
so, if they leave, then the problem is solved.
' Wrote:Saying go trade in convoys ignores the above fact. Yes, it is far more fun in a convoy but if the person doesn't like trading to begin with, convoys aren't likely to help them. Add to that the fact that pirate demands now days can remove 30 mins to an hour of a persons playtime in a matter of maybe five minutes and you see why these people are annoyed.
if you stop doing point-to-point runs, then you'll find that pirates can't catch you up
It pains me to admit that at one time, i would have agreed with this thread. q_q pirates take my money; restrict pirates to asking for 1m credits... etc etc. i used to want the system to be changed.
But then i changed my mind; the realisation that the thing that was broken wasn't the system, but my perception of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is a new mod coming soonish. perhaps the nerfing of all these runs is deliberate? perhaps this server isn't a democracy, and perhaps your opinion is merely a feather on the scales. Perhaps you should change your mind, rather than try to change the system, and bemoan the fact that things aren't easy. As monty python says 'come and see the violence inherent in the system'; the trick is not to mind the fact that things are unfair, and then it's not so bad. It's the same for everyone. we all have the same restrictions on out cash-flows, yes, even the peeps who made their money pre 4.84, and have all the cap armours they want: they still have repair bills, and bots/bats to buy, RP cargo to restock, CM/CD to buy, etc.
and there's no chance of this server running out of people who want to play it. how many times do you have to wait to get on the server in the evening/weekends?
' Wrote:but if thats all you have, thats all you have. suck it up and grind away
I don't want to spend all the time I have available trading instead of roleplaying. OH YOU GOT 30 MINUTES, SPEND IT TRADING, AND RP SOMETIME NEXT MONTH. No, go away.
Quote:this is an rp server, not a cap-ship server
He was only saying the profits sucked. He didn't say he wanted a capship. Some of us don't like having the same character forever. I have one character with 6 ships, another with 3, and a bunch of various other characters. Gunboats are about 80mil to outfit properly, transports, depending on which you get, are 30-140mil to properly outfit.

Because we play the game to have fun and be entertained. Not to be bored to death. This is a game, not real life. Also, see this. They're a space trucker and they're getting excitement.

Pirates are pirates. The only thing is, roleplaying with one will, 3/5 times, get you shot because they think you're stalling for time. Yes, we can roleplay with them, but why bother when they shoot you? Also, not all of us know your fancy routes that aren't A to B. Don't tell us not to do our routes when we don't know any others. I've spent a few hours looking around, and the most I could find are ABC routes.
Quote:But then i changed my mind; the realisation that the thing that was broken wasn't the system, but my perception of it.
Parts of it are missing or broken, but a good portion of it is fine.

Oh wow, what a kicker.
One of my friends loaded up in 4.84, he still has over 10 billion to his name. In cash. Restocking is hardly the change he would find in his dryer after a wash. And no, the community is not a democracy, but if anyone actually cared about the happiness of the community and not just themselves, they would maybe mix it up a bit to make everyone atleast a little happier.

For about thirty seconds.
I don't want a whole shift in the entire economy, but bumping up prices or reducing or adding a few, sure whatever.
