Well I've been playing discovery a lot lately and I really enjoy it. However I feel something is missing there. For example dyson sphere (omicron major) hasn't got much, there are just old unmodified nomads there and a nomad base. There is also nomad gate but it doesn't function (neither it did in SP afaik, used as an entry portal only I presume). I wish there was something more to it. Also, I wonder where is the outer shell "system"? Can it be implemented as well? I've seen Nomad Hive, are those airlock portals traversable? There was "interior" in SP where you get energy cell. Well, you can laugh at me all the way you want but curiosity took over me and I dived into upper airlock on my gunboat and I got stuck. Thanks to the good fella who was around in the system at that time I was saved (I asked him to destroy my ship after seeing it's impossible to get out on my own). Are there any plans to develop these systems further?
While on the topic, can anyone tell which utilities are being used to create new systems? I know they are described merely by ini files but I wonder if there is some better way than hand coding them entirely. I'd like to play around with it, haven't done any modding, modelling and level design stuff these years. Thanks in advance!
p.s. sorry if this is the wrong section for such post, I'm not quite used to this forum yet.
Weeeelllll.... the main system modding utility is Freelancer Explorer (don't have a link on this comp...). Do a Search for it on www.lancersreactor.com
You also have to mess around with .ini files a lot too... then change everything to fit Igiss's standards if you want to mod for Disco...

Loook for it in SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omicon Minor, there is a nomad gate that leads to it.
Strange, well I've seen it before, it's not dockable and I tried to pass through it unfortunately it had no effect.
What about the lair/hive then?
edit: ah yes, omicron minor, I forgot about it. Indeed there is a nomad gate leading to outer shell... Does the outer shell has working "airlock" like it had in SP?
No, The only way to get to the inside of the Nomad syphere is by flying into the JG in minor.
And the Nomad lair cannot be entered at all, but you can fly around it. Warning, that system is dangerous and only if you know where you are going should you enter it, you nav mao has been dissabled and you can't see the way out.

Verg
But you can still place a map marker on it, lair and two jumpgates are at the center of the map, haven't found the third yet.
What would have been dangerous? A system without a map, markers turned off, one-way jumpholes, high radiation, dense asteroid field and nebula with constant em discharges. And of course our all-time friendly nomads in large numbers with cruise disruptors and paralyzers. That would be dangerous to explore.

Explorer is just what I needed to learn basics. Not a problem to mess with .ini, I had to work on a game project where there was no editor of any kind, just plain xml files. Sure that was horrible experience in my mind but at least I'm not afraid of hand codinig maps anymore.
