Passive Stealth Applied Technologies

I am chief scientist and Kommissaroberrant Geoff Enfield. I’m currently in the study of developing a cheaper long-term alternative to the current expensive and rare cloaking devices. This project is headquartered at █████ ██ ████ █████ as of now for development tests with the least interference from space anomalies and will be moving the rest of the project to ███████████ for ██████████████████████████ for proper field testing, and then possibly future military vessel models if it reaches a successful study.

As of currently, the main objectives of this project is to develop:

-An alternative to nomad sourced cloaking devices.

-Passively disrupt oppositions radar and detection methods.

-Reduce energy consumption using passive stealth technology.

The Buro took extensive research into nomad Cloaking technology and attempted to adapt to its own reversed engineered platform. But as of currently, most models use a very inefficient state of charge; The supply of energy are in forms of disposable energy sources such as batteries. We have deemed this extremely inefficient for larger vessels as crucial space is required for logistics, supplies and even structural reinforcement. And as of lately, the Buro is now looking for methods to possibly replace the inefficient cloaking devices on larger vessels for different disrupting techniques. The PSAT project was established to have a method of staying undetected without either consuming energy, using less than what is required of the standard and currently used cloaking devices and develop a human sourced stealth system, not reliant upon untried nomad technology.

Shape diffraction
How standard ship detection works is still through a send-receive radar and detection of the surfaces that a ship's cross section picks up and it's inefficient angles reflect them back to source radar. What shape diffraction does is that when it hits irregular angles on a vessel, instead of being reflected back to the radar source, it almost breaks up into directions opposite of the radar; never to return to the source directly from the vessel. This gives an impression of there being almost something else of a completely different size on radar, modifying the ████████████████ into a more desirable shape towards a smaller cross-section, the vessel appears smaller than your average gunship with the use of shape diffraction on its own, it's efficient enough and for smaller vessels like fighters and gunships they could possibly reduce a radar cross section by 30%. Low powered radar systems on smaller ships is all most common threats can spare unless you come across the occasional lane hacker which should still have a difficult time trying to obtain a proper fix from a distance away. Application of this technology is easy if you're constructing it from the ground up, but if we're trying to modify a currently existing vessel, we found that smaller ships seem to be easier to modify due to the general lighter nature and mess surface mass to alter' which can vary depending on dimensions of width, height and length. We found that the more efficient shape for vessels to take advantage of this technology was a design of a flat nature, any opening ports like landing gear, cargo bay doors, cockpit hatches should have a saw-tooth design along its sealing aft areas, this prevents the Radar Cross Section of a ship to be picked up as radar waves return to the source from flat facing edges.

Carbon-Nanotube mesh

Specialized carbon nanotube meshes are applied by constructing a weave mesh of carbon based atomic lattices, although this can vary on the density of the nanotube mesh, it can handle higher frequencies of EM signals. And since carbon nanotube structures are semiconductors, this would only allow the obtained EM energy that has impacted the network to continue into one direction, preferably towards the inside the ship and not return the data to the sender. Effectively denying any information to the target vessel. But since the density of the nanotubes are limited and can only become less dense that structural integrity in a negative pressured environment (Vacuum) would alter the network regardless due to decompression. The advantage that carbon nanotubes have is its structural strength compared to some metals, due to the strong structural atomic integrity and precision of said components, it may take many days just to procure a small 15M² block of nanotube mesh and would require huge amounts of extracted carbon or readily constructed nanotube lattices. To adapt to this, the most suitable method for this application is the underside of stealth material layers, being sandwiched between the bottom layers of the PSAT and above the battle-strengthened hull.

Iron-Ball paint

Although called a paint, this material is a form of solid construction tiles. Iron ball paint was one of the first stealth technologies used by any known human military. Although most considered it obsolete, it’s still seen its use in effectively lowering a ship's profile signature. Although we’ve seen it would be more effective at sealing loose energy signatures that come off the stealth ships own systems. How this technique is done is by having small iron balls coated in an isolative material suspended equally between and stacked on-top of each other by a thick epoxy resin paint to create a 3D network. How it reduces the radar signature is through the result of radar waves that create molecular oscillations from the magnetic field that the iron balls create within the tiles. This oscillation creates small amounts of heat, so the energy from radar waves has to transfer its energy heat rather than having that energy reflect back to the sender, essentially absorbing the scanner and radar detection energy. This heat energy is absorbed by the spacecraft structure by conductive materials and then dissipated internally to avoid IR detection methods.

Split Ring resonators (SRR)
Split ring resonators are conductive split ring surfaces, in collaboration with other passive stealth technology, split ring resonators have been found the be highly useful on surfaces that have no direct reflections back to the radar source such as contours on wings, angled surfaces and jagged teeth edge hatches. SRR provides one of the best solutions to radar absorption technologies due to the scaled availability to the wide bands of scanners and radar frequencies that can be absorbed by, smaller scaled SRR’s will absorb higher frequency bands, while larger SRR’s will absorb lower frequencies. How this an SRR absorbs radar and scanner energy is done through the isolation of its conductive “C” shape structures, these structures try to match the frequency on a photographic resist on a thin conductive foil (Most likely copper or silver), but since dimensions determine the wavelength that it absorbs, the precise micrometer can affect its attenuation. For example, a “C” sections diameter of 5mm can have a high attenuation effect of the K & Ka wave length, 8mm diameters will have a high attenuation effect on X, C, S and L bands, 10mm for UHF, P, VHF and HF frequencies. It's noted that any frequencies higher than Ka are considered useless due to the ineffective range of only a few hundred meters and is most likely absorbed by loose nebula gasses or other dispersed particles found in a space vacuum, and a ship would most likely be in visual range due to the band-waves short detection length. But its abilities are not only limited to absorbing radar energy, these resonators can be heated or cooled quickly within arrays to generate a false heat signature, while the resonator state is active, changing the frequency of certain arrays can create a infrared visible “blob” to falsify any information of a vessel's true heat signature.

Dear Kommissaroberant Enfield,

We have taken time to manufacture and test components and materials found in provided blueprints. We have installed them on our newest gunship prototype based on LHX9 mainframe with a standard cloaking solution for a ship of this size.

The results of conducted tests did not exceed expected parameters. Preliminary field probe earned us about 30% of energy cost reduction. We estimate that for our particular ship design we would need to reduce energy consumption at least by 80% in order to maintain an active and stable stealth field with current powercores. In theory we could of course increase its output. However, as our research showed it, the more power output, the more energy the cloak will consume to hide it. At this point we believe that further efficiency could be achieved only by developing a machine-learning component responsible for intelligent modulation of the stealth field optimized for ship and current environment. This should earn us no more than 20% increase in energy efficiency though.

We believe that without a complete change of a paradigm, doubling active cloak efficiency is the only improvement within reach at this point.

I apologize to you about my overall quietness but I'm sending this communication as hopes that our long working relationship between our groups don't stagnate. Call it a check-up from a friend.

On terms of the research you've provided us, I'm pleased to see that you've put faith into it on a working ship design. I don't want be the man to judge, but the application of those specialized cloaking generators may be the thing that interferes with the effectiveness of the Stealth technology. Please be aware of the huge differences that Stealth technology and Cloaking technology have- Maybe this should of been explained in my prior research to you and I do feel as if this is my fault as a scientist.




Anyway, "Stealth" in its core concept is designed to counter the effects of being picked up by electronic detection methods, radar, infra-red, ect. Every object has what is known as a RCS (radar cross section) which is the amount an object returns radar waves to any detection equipment. They mostly work in passive methods that require little to now actual power source, not to render an object physically invisible to human visual perception; That job comes down to cloaking technology.

A "Cloak" is to render a craft virtually invisible to human perception and takes a lot of work, by contrast we know very little to the ones that are found on the black market. Something that's described to bend the energy of the Electro-Magnetic specturm including visual light around the ship. But there is one downside, it uses so much energy that scanners generally pick up what is known as a "spatial anomaly", if you manage to triangulate more than one radar into a path, you should notice a bend, almost like a very fuzzy bubble or orb.

Anyway, your mentions on a machine learning component, funny because we're already taking steps such as that. The problem with space is that its a constantly changing environment that in basic terms "We need the technology to learn its surroundings, always.". If theres any more progress that we can share with you on the development of this technology, I'm sure that we can both mutually benefit from it in some way.



Anyway, apart from that. I'm personally wondering where we stand in terms of each others status. We've not been in contact for some time so I'd thought it be crucial that we get off on the right foot, an exchange of information or anything crucial events that you wish to share? It's pretty much a "Hi, how have you been?" kind of thing.

Well... That is unexpected? As someone who's quite familiar on what the laws say regarding hostile entities... You're not on there. You might be able to turn this into a legal issue. Unfortunately our current lines are operating a limited selection of equipment, we're a small team with many projects.
