also to command this kind of battleship you need much more than just predicting enemy movement you need to measure his speed, range, firing rate, prepare evasive manheuvers, counter measures i think that is pretty mind****ingly intense also projectiles will have somewhat of 3km/s speed so it will not take much to the salvo to reach the target also the battleships will be slow moving weapon fortresses see a gameplay video of battlestations midway to see more or less the gameplay i want to put in here
Your getting abit ahead of yourself there, it's almost impossible to do all that you just said, Measuring speed range and firing rate? if you are meaning a Silent Hunter 3 style, it just wont work in freelancer, its too arcade set and theres really a limit to what you can do(unless your part of a mod called Freeworlds:P) it can be extremely difficualt to turn a arcade game like this, into a Sim.
Linkus:
"The cons such as not seeing your enemy's probably very pretty vessel, luck playing a huge factor still in combat and a lack of tension (Blowing chunks out of an enemy right next to you can be pretty intense) appear to outweigh the pro of it simply being long range."
Freelancer supports LOD(or at least freeworlds does from what ive seen) so yeah, i get it does lose most of its detail from a distance. but most people ive seen in NSU just crusie closer if they dont want a long range combat. and then get in close. just cus the weapons can reach far doesnt mean they just use them for that haha.
