' Wrote:So what, you want me to RP this out: my vision is that Liberty isn't fascist at all, all these are lies. They pretend we are against freedom of speech, I only restrain those who begins spouting messages supporting terrorism and piracy - and hoh, fascism - and hoh, everyone agrees.
What is that? What should I do? In fact, do I have any option?
I did try, it is the only reasons why I'm posting these now.
I'm not a very good capdriver, nor that good at pvp. I usually prefer to avoid them. On server, I always relish on RP first, combat after. I did, and found no solution. I did try to rp it out, many time, it completely failed.
All I'm asking, is for some of you people opposing liberty, back off. I can't believe because some weapon legislation passed, everyone begins spitting on us from everywhere on Sirius. That doesn't make sense.
While i'm staying out of liberty as much as i can, i'd like to pipe in again on that (yeay for annoying newbies like me \o/ ). Note that i'm not in liberty shouting 'fascit, fascist', because as far as i'm concerned, there's already enough of that going around. Anyhow...
The weapons licensing was the drop that made the barrel spill. Follow my train of thought from the PoV of a trader for a sec:
- It was just decided on by a military-ish faction that takes on police work as if they were cops
- In fact, we have Navy acting as cops all over the system
- LSF, an intelligence branch, is also *very* present and very visible
- The general tone when they speak up is stuff like "protecting the civilians of liberty everyday from treats unknown to them" or "represents all that is free in this world of inequalities and untruths of character. We stand where others wont, we fight what they say is a losing battle", "the most advanced naval fleet in Sirius " - Propaganda at it's best
- They might be different factions, but they're Liberty Law when seen from outside, operating in secrecy (Lack of accountability), and/or with a monopol on power.
- What you de facto see in Liberty is a whole slew of vastly superior vessels, enforcing police law. Excessive presence of excessive power.
(intermission: no, i'm not saying there should be less SA/LPI/LSF present, i'm just commenting on what impression that gives)
On to the legal codex:
- Ban on anything threatening the power monopol. Mercenaries are barred, BH only allowed if they have previously proven to proactively assist the powers that be
- Restrictions on Weapons and Weapon trade
- No details on how fines, taxes and registration fees are being used
- A large, massively mined & guarded area noone is allowed to go near, on pain of death
- 'Shoot first, ask questions later' attitude on crafts whichs IFF cons enemy (which might be a small malfunction)
- Excessive fines for minor infractions, no possibilty for the fining officer to adjust for special circumstances
- Wanton - or random - penalties that don't make much sense. It's less illegal to sell a gun to a known pirate, then to deal in counterfeight software [there may be a very good historical RP reason for that, but it doesn't make sense if you don't knwo what that reason might be]
- No appeal. It's pay or die (including temporary inability to pay)
etcetc..
In short: Oppressively visible militarized forces doing police work, enforcing prohibitive laws, excessive fines, with no way to appeal, and being shot being a very quick reaction to any form of noncompliance.
Sounds like Rheinland ^_^
I'm not saying that's what liberty should be, i'm not even saying that's what it is right now - just mentionng that it can very easily be perceived the same way Rheinland forces are. We expect it from Rheinland though (they're very clear about the 'comply or die' attitude), but seeing it in Liberty is a shock to most traders passing through.
PS: no, i don't really think 5-15m is an excessive fine.
