The Dreadnought Basilica and her battlegroup were originally deployed to Tau-29 to counter growing threats against the Maltese economy. Having performed this role dutifully and in light of a declining Gallic presence in the Taus for reasons as yet unknown, the Outcast leadership elected to retool the Basilica and her accompanying warships towards a new purpose - finally spearheading an invasion into Crayter Republic space, dubbed Operation Cathedral. Using controlled engine burns and the weak gravity of Tau 29's distant red dwarf, the Outcast battlegroup slingshotted themselves towards the Baffin jump corridor, in hope of entering the system undetected and uncontested.
Unbeknownst to them, the Crayter carrier Helios and its forces were also on the move, on a course for the Tau-31 system. The Crayter fleet detected the Basilica and vectored the destination of the Outcast ships to Baffin, alerting the Crayterian military and burning hard for the jump hole to form a blockade before the imminent arrival of the Maltese forces. It remains to be seen whether or not Operation Cathedral will be a triumph with the Outcasts having lost the element of surprise, and the Maltese fleet now on a collision course with a foe of equal caliber.

Development Team Addendum:
This is an open ended official story event. As such, we've elected not to include a kill counter or cash reward, as the reward for participation is the opportunity for players to achieve a lasting impact on the storyline. When the dust settles, one of these ships will fall, and while we've considered the consequences of both a Maltese and Crayter victory in this event, it is up to the community to decide which one will be left standing.
In addition, this event is going to serve as a testbed for a rework of POB siege mechanics in which the hull has been increased by a factor of fifty, and the regen rate divided by ten. While we're not interested in handing out the exact math right now, the Basilica and Helios will be using the same stats as a core 5 POB under the new system. The hope is that this will allow sieges to be carried out over the span of days rather than necessitating one massive attack to overcome the base's regen.
This is also not a resupply event. The bases will be fully stocked, please make no attempt to sell additional repair or fuel commodities to either base.
Should neither base be destroyed, the one is most damaged will be considered destroyed for the purpose of the event.
