When you look at Banshee, first thing you notice that it's basically an oversized reactor on wings, and that observation is correct. Unlike your Valk, there are no additional chambers for combustion, there is no reduction. Whatever happens in the chamber goes directly trough the nozzle. We had no time and resources to think our design trough, so we just slapped the fuel cell at the end of the chamber. In that setup throttle equals power, and whatever happens to the reactor happens to the main bus. With the chamber four years behind the service it naturally started to fluctuate, which in turn, fried the fuel cell, and everything that was connected to it.
Normally, when it comes to the VP setup, there are no reactor controls. Nada. Every part, every wire and every driver is fine tuned to give the exact output at given exact spec. So, no user input, you trust the state to manage your reactor for you. It doesn't get any more Rheinlandish than this. Also, this is why when you want to optimise for power-efficiency you have to stop at a hangar, so the mechanic can tune everything up.
That's why the whole thing goes haywire if you mount anything non "Hergestellt in Rhineland" on it.
On the side note this is why, Is suspect, the OMG's are so unstable. They lack those precision - tuned drivers and elements. Whoever got their hands on the VP did a good job copying it, but was fucking clueless as to why and what. I can't blame him.
There is no sense in replicating this rudimentary, faulty setup.
First, I'm not feeling like phoning Daumann for parts at any date. I'm replacing the VP Chaimber with the OMG one. Little bird told me that there are magicians on Gran Canaria that know how to assemble and maintain them.
Second, no more fuel cells slapped together. This time it has to be done proper. What I'm considering is... another throttle. Reactor of the same size, but for the industrial sector, that is with the ability to monitor and control it's parameters, and a proper inverter with integrated circuits. With the power under control I should be able to connect and operate higher ranges of equipment, fuck, maybe even the unstable mess Damien and his crew call weaponry. Drawback is, well, I have to operate both the ship and the reactor, watching the boiler like in some fucking choo-choo train, but that can get automated over time. Shouldn't be an issue, not for me.
There is an issue though. If I will operate the Generator above the throttle, there will be a considerable heat build-up, to put it mildly. Answer is simple. Heat vents.
But those things need space. Fortunately, there is a whole, huge side panel on that thing that does nothing but display the engraved flag of the Federal Republic.
For an extra fee you can arrange those pipes to display something meaningful, and I think I know what it's gonna be...
Setup will need some serious cash. Until She's done, I'm stripping her off her equipment and switching to another heavy platform, so I'm no longer stuck at Barrier.
