' Wrote:Kane, Nightfall, Alpha 429: there are 2 explainations to your arguments. 1) when originally the battlestars and vipers were added to the mod you voiced your disapproval and where ignored or 2)you did not feel any of these other ship types were a problem until after someone came along and created an entire faction out of it.
Yes, Orrin, we voiced our opinions and not only us. Also, please stop taking personally everything that is said against the BSG imported stuff and making a drama out of it. What you're obviously trying to do has a definition. I don't mean to flame. You're an excellent player and everything. Just a bit of fact, the battlestars were here long before the Vipers.
' Wrote:The precident is already set fellas, the damage is done. Discovery Mod is perhaps less of a digression from Freelancer than other mods like WTS, but still a digression. It was a digression the very first time someone decided to put a hollywood hull into the mod. I wasn't around at that time, however as a newcomer to Discovery I found it perfectly natural to create this faction because of the ships. Not only do the ships retain their original names "Battlestar" and "Colonial Viper" they even have cryptic info cards about alien races and unknown origins. The starwars ships have been renamed for the most part, but they are still unmistakeably starwars ships.
Yes, the precedent is made, but that isn't irreversible. Is that a reason to make Discovery Mod into Discovery BSG Total Conversion Mod? I can use the same argument as you did about purists - go play BSG Total Conversion. I won't use that. You failed to see I said ALL NON FL ships, that includes the models for the Star Wars ships as well, I took the Procurator (Outcast Dread) as an example of what I mean. Or should I start pathetically threatening 'I'm leaving Discovery and you won't get the three systems with their own complete stories, rumors and infocards and never seen features like battleship wrecks which give out 800 cargo and battleship weapons loot (and even more, like a dockable Outcast Dread in the depths of Omicron-85 with missions against Nomads [true, I didn't manage to get those work and if Igiss lets me use those]) that I'm making!?'
Grow up man.
' Wrote:You guys should look at the bigger picture here. What has made Discovery so successful? Surely you don't think its only because of all this fancy RP we do on the forums do you? No, at some point someone decided to put these cool ships into the mod because that generates interest. Toys generate interest. If you want to make some obscure connesuers version of Discovery where nothing non-freelancer will tarnish its image, go do it, then see how many people play it.
Just what is the bigger picture? I see people flying a Zoner Juggernaught based on the design of the Eagle, the Condor, a giant flying wing that dominates the Omicron Gamma named Hephaestos and a natural evolution of the Sabre, a Longsword Destroyer/Cruiser with a much bigger one, a Lance Dreadnought in Omicron Alpha. I see the Junkers flying a Collector, battleship version of a CSV made of station parts welded together. Imagination is the limit.
Alas, someone else has to do it. I saw an opportunity in Mohr and the other guy (sorry I forgot the name) that posses the ability to take the design and evolve it into a real model, I was suggesting they try if they can do it. If you want to limit yourself to something you seen in a TV show...
' Wrote:Take the ships out and people will go play another mod where their favorite ship is in it.
I think the evolution of the original designs would not only make Discovery stay true to it's original promise - to be an extension to the original, but make it even more popular just because of the same thing that makes it stay true to the original promise, the uniqueness of the ships.
Everybody has a few ships from one TV Show or another, no one has evolved the original designs.
Of course, it's Igiss' mod and I can't command anyone to dedicate the amount of work needed, less have much influence of what's going to be included in the mod, I'm just posting suggestions and doing what I can to help.
