Sunspot activity that severe would cause the auroras to be visible far, far south (on the northern hemisphere). Since that's not the case, we can rule that out for now. I'm still thinking an intermittent connection issue where the server is unable to get it's own data back down the pipe. Since we don't have info on additional applications running on the server (firewall? Antivirus? Other applications that intercept network traffic or temporarily exclusively lock the server process?) it's hard to say what this is exactly, but I am sure our hardworking admin team is trying to figure this out so they too can get back to pewing;)
