I had been suspecting for a long time that something wasn't quite as it should be with one of my senior bosses. As a mid-level intelligence coordinator, I often got intel on wreck sites in the vicinity. Some of these wrecks were know to contain valuable goods or equipment. Or both! I gathered the data on them, and passed on the intel to my boss. But for a while now, I had been noticing that a few of them seemed to have disappeared in the system. When I looked in to the matter, my boss told me that I "shouldn't worry my pretty little face" with it! The pig! So, I did some snooping around behind his back. After all, I have access to all his passwords. Whether he knows it or not! *she giggles* So, where was I? Oh, right... The intel! During my investigation, I discovered that my boss had kept the missing intel to himself. No doubt, was he selling it on the black market. Upon further digging through the files, I saw that the other bosses were doing the exact same thing. So, I did what any girl would do. I went to my boss and grabbed his... tie, and said: "I know what you're up to, and I want a piece of the action!"
When I went to my quartes that night, I noticed my boss discussing something with one of the other bosses as I passed by. They said nothing, but they didn't take their eyes off me until I stepped through the door to my living quarters. I knew I had pushed my luck too far, and as the morning came, so did the real problems. Access was denied wherever I tried to go, and I had forgotten to make a copy of the incriminating evidence. I was done for! But, then your message came through. I dashed for the hangar bay, and jumped into the waiting ship. Then I undocked...
It was an inferno! All the turrets were firing at me, and I saw security officers dashing to their ships as well. And that's when I found the cardamine in the cockpit. It was too small to show up on the cargo manifest and scanners, but it was EXACTLY what I needed. I took a deep whiff, and the world just... changed. It was as if a new dimension had opened right in front of me. My senses were sharpened, and my brain went into overdrive. None of the turrets could hit me, and the pursuers were quickly lost in the asteroid field. It was the greatest feeling in the world! But now, it was payback time!
The CEO's at Pueblo had already alerted the bounty hunters, and they were waiting for me at the gate to New York. They're dead now! And so are those damn Xenos who tried to butt in on the battle. After I had disposed of the trash, I jumped to New York. I plotted a course for the Badlands, but then I remembered that I had a chance to stick it to them right away. I made a brief stop near Baltimore Shipyard, and let loose my guns on the supply depot that belonged to DSE.
When I finally arrived at the Rogue base in the Badlands, they just laughed at me, and told me that "if I ever wanted to see the inside of their base, I needed to take my clothes off right there and then". Or I could "head up to the northern sector and try my luck with the Junkers". I opted to go for the Junkers! After asking around a bit, i was introduced to a man who said that "he needed things done, and in return, he would pay me, and put in a good word with the Rogues". "Deal", i said! It turned out to be various sabotage and assassination assignments, and since I still had some cardamine left, I was ripping through whatever he threw at me. And then he finally said the magic words: "You go visit the Rogues now! They'll let you in!"
Once there, I started asking around about Your organization. Where could I find You? How to make You take interest in me? Finally, a guy named Dean Askew, offered to help me out. In return for a favor, of course. *she sighs* He had seen nothing but Rogue women for a very long time, and he was dying to... "get closer" to me. Frankly, I don't blame him. Their women had everything a man could ever wish for. Huge muscles and hairy chests! *she shrugs when she thinks about the Rogue women on Buffalo Base* Bleargh! So, I said to Dean: "OK! You tell me where I can find the nearest Lane Hacker base, and how to get friendly with them, and in return, you can spend the night with me". He was all excited and went: "Yes, yes, yes!" Later, when head had closed his commodity shop, he came to my quarters. I smiled at him, and offered him a drink. Which he emptied before he'd closed the door behind him. "So, where is this base, and how do I get in", I asked? He gave me the coordinates to Montezuma Base, and told me that "it was the only place for someone like me to even be on the same base as a Lane Hacker". He also told me that "cardamine was the only way to negotiate with them". Then he passed out! Right there in front of me. The little extra "something-something" I had spiked his drink with had finally set in. I just let him lie where he was, and went to bed. In the morning, he was more than a little annoyed over what had happened. But I just looked at him and said: "I told you you could spend the night with me, and you did! Lying on the floor, while I was sleeping in my bed right beside you." He started to say something, but I looked at him fiercly and interrupted him: "You've just told me - someone who the Lane Hackers have little or no knowkedge of - how to find them. Do you think they will look kindly on that?" "You belong to me now, Dean! You will provide me with information, and I will make sure you are compensated, but you belong to me! Got it?" He just nodded, and left the room. I left too. I had new friends to make!
I spent some time at Buffalo building up a decent pile of credits before I headed for Bethlehem Station in Pennsylvania. I was going to need a bigger ship if I would have any chance at all to impress the Lane Hackers. I got the ship, and remembered that the intel I had stumbled on back on Pueblo had pointed out some juicy wrecks for me to loot. Especially one had caught my eye. It was a storage container, which was believed to still be intact, and also contain an experimental weapon. Only problem... It was in the Grande Negra cloud in Texas. An irradiated nightmare if I ever saw one. But, i needed that weapon, so I could free up some cash. So, I went, and i got it! It went by the codename SOLARIS, and it looked like it could do some damage. The dealer on Bethlehem had never seen anything like it, so he ended up paying me more than i could ever have dreamed of. A little flattering, a little flirting and a few kisses on his cheek made it easier, of course, but I was in the money now. Now, it was time to get down to business again. With my newly acquired Dromedary freighter, I plotted a course for Alberta. The message I had gotten on Pueblo had said something about another experimental weapon there, and since I had the intel from my boss, finding it was a cakewalk.
The instructions in the message had also told me to get a shipment of cardamine to Montezuma. My heart was throbbing when I left Buffalo Base again. Would the Lane Hackers accept me as one of their own, or would I have to spend the remainder of my life ducking on remote bases? I made sure no one followed me on my journey, and then I reached Montezuma Base. I left my ship in the docking bay, and let the Rogues unload the cargo. In one of the corners of the docking bay, I could make out a silhouette standing in the shadows. I stepped closer... "Are you my saviour", I asked?
