Do like the successful MMO's of these days, utilize their key points that actually call people into the game, and make them stay there.
You want a shinny toy? Join a faction and learn to be rp, for instance.
Actually give something worthwhile to the main source of roleplay in this server.
No, not the silent traders.
No, not the gazillion pob's.
No, not the lowut battleship captains that can barely string a sentence before firing all missiles.
The official factions that are here, and were built from the ground up and that gained their officialdom through roleplay, activity and gaining the blessings of the admins and playerbase after 6-9 months.
How's that for an start up idea?
This. Exactly this.
Sorry. I have nothing against indies, but official factions offer something that the server needs. Giving them something that makes it worth suffering all the disadvantages and making them somehow attractive makes sense.
yea exterminate Official factions and make it a PvP server and screw all what us oldtimers and our factions have done the last 6-7 years. so that the CoD players can have their PEWPEW

But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!

Just wait until Pavel arrives, he is The One for moving to proper subforums...
Interesting that obviously some people are concerned with future of official factions and Disco as whole, while for you it is useless chit chat and your only concern (which you stated really loudly, we all noticed, really) are problems with activity tracker. Hmm...
Its fun that you say it
i have been here well you can add 1 year to my forum account
now it seems that admins are all falling flat on their noses over every ones plea to get rid of RP rules and Official factions, and slowley but steadly moving towards a PvP orientet server.
Now i ask you
do you want a PvP server as the one GC did have back in the day where GC had 2 servers.
i ask you this cuz the PvP server did die
you can ask some of the other oldtimers why and how it did die.
Fact is that when we startet to complain it was the tracker did not register all players. And it evolved into this.
We can discuss everu aspects of Officialdon the whole night and for weeks.
But all i ask is that they check the tracker and makes sure it workes befor they post.
Yes Benitez have after our count only 3 "maby" 4 that meets the minimum
but that is 50% more than the Tracker says. "and that is not includede shared ships.
That is why i raised a concerned voice
cuz if that happend to us how many of the other factions did that not allso happen to.

@roadrunner: And the one Admin that does show up in this thread, you jump all over him with your demands for this and demands for that.
The tracker issue is not being ignored. No faction is going to lose officialdom because a member had time that wasn't counted on the tracker. We can look at each player individually if we have to.
I'm less concerned with the tracker and more concerned with helping Official factions where I can. Please tone it down a bit and realize that we all want to make this game as enjoyable as possible for as many as possible.
Discuss this in some other thread, make a new thread for that... for all I care.
This one here is about the Faction-activity, and the valid concern was brought up, that the tracker is broken, not counting time time or even outright resetting players/chars flight-time as it never happened.
This -is- a problem if upon that the official activity for factions is measured.
So it has to be fixed.
As for the rest of the arguments in this thread. Some good stuff, some less good stuff. And I still hope nobody listens to any of your stuff.
Good we spoke about that. All hail the free Internets, which this mod is not. Ofc.
Now people not leading one of the factions mentioned in the OP-list starting this thread... hey look,... there's a door. Use it.
//Edit: Grr, sneaky Garrett ninja'ing me posting.

Then please, look closely at the 101st.
Also, as a different topic, yet related to the faction-activity,... don't think it's a bit counter-productive for the overall atmosphere if activity is looked at for Dezember? Lets be serious, people -have- other things to do before Christmas, and during the holidays.
DiscoFL is the last people are concerned with.
It's that one month of the year that should not be counting for any faction-activity at all.
Its fun that you say it

I think I remember the PvP server, better say I remember it was there, but I never went there and I probably even didn´t notice when died because I was not interested in PvP. What I think answers your question.
Admin noticed your objection and I understand your point, it is issue which needs to be solved. But it just really seemed that you are standing here, shouting "gtfo with that faction saving crap, activity tracker is bugged, you know?!"
So nothing personal, maybe you didn´t mean like that, but it is impression you made with your posts (at least on me).
To late guys, you're wasting your time.
Damage is done, there is no turning back.
To many mistakes,to many bias decisions,to many "friends with benefits"...
Game logic is broken, game RP is broken, there is no easy fix.
Sorry...that's how i fell...and many other people i know.
Happy new year!
Freelancer RP the way Discovery knew it and now still knows it.
Flying a character and chatting/shooting around doesn't attract players and never had.
Saying that improving RP possibilities doesn't add anything to official factions, nor indie players.
If you want to make Discovery follow the MMORPG game designs, which obviously will never work as the game is too old to attract a big number of players, then you go and add major grinds, unique items and stats you can brag about.
People want something competitive for some reason, if it's just for your pvp kill/death ratio or you having the possession of something unique. But good luck making truly unique items :3
Saying this is due to the holidays is probably the worst excuse I have ever seen. As most other games seem to actually attract more players, due to Christmas gifts and events.
and I just noticed I wasted time and energy as well as electricity from my pc by typing all of this.
I used to be pretty infamous for watching the tracker like a hawk, so think it's ok to explain how it works.
You create a ship, Police.001, then rename it BPA)Police.001. The server realises it is online, but the tracker doesn't register it until midnight GMT, at which point it is added with no time. Should you rename it or move it to another account (creating a new entry in the server database), you will have to wait until midnight to have the new entry added.
The next day, and any further days after that, any logged time is added to the tracker and kept there for 30 days, at which point it rolls off.
The problem that is affecting many factions currently is that the rollback meant that a new database entry was created for every ship so you'd need to wait until your second day before any time would be tracked. While that is a problem, if you only logged once in the almost three month period since the rollback happened that is also a problem.
If it really is just a tracker problem and you have loads of ignored members, log on two separate days in January to make sure and prove your faction isn't dead.
