Oh gawd you sir have one the internet.
So true....
Quote:We've all dealt with them, and we all hate them: Those traders who, in their desperate attempts to make the pirate as sour and as bitter as possible by wasting their time, will run all the way to the system wall.
In my opinion, this is actually a form of trolling.
In what situation does he want to do that though? You said yourself that you wouldn't, and I doubt other people would too. They'd rather spite the other player.
But that is not the point. As I have said many times, the problem is the intent of one player to troll the other.
An encounter created out of hate and spite? Sure, that's certainly healthy.
Another player going out of his way to spite the other does not breed fun. Imagine if official factions did this all the time? No one would want to play with them.
I'll happily admit defeat if my target runs off to a base or down a lane or something. However running towards a wall of death is just absolutely stupid. It's done for no reason other than to spite the other player.
That seems like a needlessly complicated alternative to dealing with ooRP trolling.
Traders can just log off and come on when you're not around anyway.
I once chased a Smuggler all around Manchester and eventually he headed out to the 'Wall'. At no time did I feel that I was being 'Trolled', 'Hated', 'Spited' or any such other things. He eventually exploded and I flew all the way back to civilisation.
I made a conscious decision to follow him all the way to his destruction. I could have easily made the decision to give up and let him get away. We all have that freedom of choice and we live with that outcome. If you feel that you wasted half an hour of your life then the easy solution is don't do it again.
Quote:Instead of 5 pages of pros and cons to answer this question (because you will not get everyone to agree) why not put a report in and see what the Admins decide? This will give a definitive answer to this debate. If the sanction goes through it answers the way the Admins deem it should be.
I posted the above 6 pages ago and I seriously can't believe that it is still going round and round the same circles of argument.
All I see happening is that people are getting more and more hot under the collar and people's tempers are fraying to the point where a few are stepping over the boundaries of decent constructive arguments.
Why don't you all agree to disagree on this matter and as I said put a Report in, if you still feel aggrieved, and let the Admins make the decision for us all?

There are characters that are meant to avoid some other characters, a smuggler will not stop for a lawful, a coorp trader will not stop for a pirate, or some might stop, but you can't expect that from everyone, and even more, you can't force them to do it.
Still doesn't justify suicidal runs into a system wall though however,

What kind of standards are we trying to set though? We should just simply let people get away with ooRP maneuvers against other players.

Well, HighlandLaddie did say that my threads have the unfortunate habit of attracting people. - There are some words that are fundamentally unpleasant - try to think about whether you need them or not. If you decide "need" then some people may get annoyed - Tunicle
Well, if we can't agree that the system wall doesn't exist in RP, and therefore Characeters don't know they are going to die. We have nothing more to talk about.
Tthe wall doesn't exist in my mind, if I decide to fly straight is not to suicide, but to test the pirate's will to chase me all that long way. And then an unfortunate self catastrophic decompression happens... engine failure... bad luck, call it whatever you want.
Just remember this, no one forces you to chase him, if you feel trolled then maybe the trader isn't the one doing it.
There is no reason people should justify system wall running or plainly avoiding interaction. It's a lame strategy that a vast majority of the people on the server dislike. Regardless of any reason. Avoiding interaction shows no interest to RP. As a smuggler myself, I love it when I get caught. Mind you, I don't lead them on a chase 750k off the map or above the map or whatever your preference is, because I know exactly how boring that is when you need to chase someone that far. It's also not possible to do anymore, if being chased by a fighter or bomber due to the different cruise speeds available.
Just don't do it, don't try to justify it. Accept that it's not cool and does not better yourself or server interactions in any way. If you can't lead them on a ten minute chase within the boundaries of the map, then you need a faster ship.
Quote: But the intent of it isn't to escape. The intent is to spite the other player.
This feels a bit assumed and one-sided. Back a few years ago when I started playing, I admit that I ran in a straight line to attempt to 'escape' some people myself. I didn't have the credits to pay up a pirate, and being killed would kill my only income. I'd be back at square one if I didn't escape. If I turned, they would have caught up. My only option? Forward.
I see a ton of assumptions that all players are doing this just to irritate the pirate players. I wouldn't say that's true 100% of the time though.
I mean, if you don't want to chase someone >300k off of the map, just turn around and find someone else. You don't really have to put yourself through the pain, that's your own decision. I also doubt this is a really frequent problem. I may be wrong since I don't pirate, although 9 times of 10, I have a feeling traders (or anyone) doesn't do this.
As I've stated, This issue is not an issue at all but a rare event and as such it should be treated in-game. Lyth@
I've got nothing against you, But you sometimes get on some nerves - You should focus abit more on playing then to restrict or make people invalid because clearly you have just fingered every person who does that as a troll, In human civilization its called Hypocrisy.
Can we just answer this thread with a solid "No." And move on?
'Cause what we're talking about is absolutely avoidable.
If chasing someone all over creation bothers you - don't chase them!
Wave them off and move on to other things.
You can't sanction someone else for your decision to stubbornly troll yourself.

I dont quite get this. Why run to a system wall to die, while instead you can die faster and go on trading if you accept the fact that you'll die anyways and get snacced?
This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched.
