Only the planets of New Paris, Manhattan, New Tokyo, New London, and New Berlin (plus maybe Malta and Crete) have these missiles, and they are only fired from their respective docking rings.
Bear in mind that these systems already spawn fleets of NPC warships, are generally regarded as very heavily patrolled, and usually maintain installations near the orbit of the planet (in Manhattan's case, Long Island exists - it's not like removing these missiles would change anything).
Honestly, keep them. They're easy enough to dodge if you turn your countermeasure on and anything bigger than a snub has bigger things to worry about flying next to a hostile capital planet anyway.
Those missiles are a horrible invention, been instantkilled by them already multiple times.
Honesty what did you think, the more added instantkilling platforms= more fun?

Again, I find it hard to imagine those deaths weren't avoidable. What necessitated you flying within 3-4 kilometres of a capital planet's docking ring?
Guys, realism =/= fun.
I can imagine the planet being well defended, however it's disgusting when ships just run all the way there and sit at the planet, letting the missiles do the work for them. This is a Player vs Player server, not a Player vs Planet server.
A good example is Gamma. It is so annoying raiding Gamma sometimes because people just stick near the planet and let the missiles do the job for them.
And on another note, if people are so hellbent on realism, how come the planet can chuck out missile after missile after missile?

Sounds to me more of an issue with base-hugging in general, and less of a problem with the mechanic in question. If I undocked from Waterloo one day and saw twenty ships outside of New London waiting to murder me because there was no more docking defense, I'd be a bit annoyed. Of course, I understand the issue with chasing someone toward a capital planet, but honestly, they'd do that with whatever they could find, and removing ways for them to do so won't necessarily even help the problem, just make it slightly more inconvenient.
Honestly, in the end it doesn't really matter to me. Long Island is more of a deterrent to flying near Manhattan than the missiles are anyway, so it's not like much will change.
*shrug*
Make bases hostile to everyone, so everyone can basehug against everyone.

Its pretty much encouraging such behavior. Flying around or even fighting at a planet was difficult even before, now its deadly.
Capital Planets are to be heavily protected. Why do you people whine so much about it? I'm a pirate myself and i don't whine about them. They don't annoy me because i understand that they're there for a reason.
Edit: Yeah, ninja'd. I didn't read everything. But yes, It's all up to players if they wanna have fun or let the planet defenses have fun. It's a game, if you die there is this botton called respawn.
