Lol.
Did you never used Windows Media Player? Media. Media Center is included in Windows Vista and above, you just don't know. When u go into Media Player settings you will see a title called "Media Center - Settings" or smth like that.
eHome I don't know tbh, I believe it's included as well.
And instead of advertising Win7 you could go ahead and help Protege to fix this issue as this could happen u all the time as well. It's a common issue that is around since Win7.
Could you give me the following info ;
Code:
- OS Version (Windows XP/Vista/7/8....)
- Net Framework Version
And try the following please
Code:
- Uninstall Net Framework
- Run CCLeaner over both Registry&standard
- Reboot PC
- Install this Version of Net Framework ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=17718 )
- Try if it works
If it still does not work go ahead and do the following ;
- Download and run this ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 )
- See if it works

The launcher seems to store its current copy of these in "\Users\Yourusername\Documents\My Games\Discovery\launcheraccounts.xml" if you just want to take a backup of them; if you're planning on doing a reinstall after that, make sure that all your accounts are actually in there first.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro N, which doesn't include Media Player.
And I don't think you can uninstall/reinstall NET framework on 8.1 as 3.5 and 4.5 are already included in the system. I tried messing with programs and features, but there doesn't seem to be an option to completely uninstall it, just something by the name of ".NET Framework 4.5 Advanced Services". You can disable 3.5 but it doesn't fix the problem.
But since I've got a way to backup the accounts (and it works), time to format C. See ya in a few hours.
- Disable NetFramework with this Tutorial ( http://anewdomain.net/2013/10/21/how-to-enable-net-framework-2-0-and-3-5-in-windows-8-1-for-older-programs/ )
- Install NetFramework 4.0/3.5 idk which the launcher requires minimum
- Activate it ( see tutorial above again )
- Try it out
I'm sure you have a net framework issue, reinstalling the OS would help, if u don't want this you can try disabling NetFramework 4.5 which comes with win8.1 pro and install an older version
If you want to definetly know what is causing this error, you should try out another application that requires the (dot)Net to see if it works, if u get the same error there are only 2 ways then.
Either reinstalling OS or using the Tutorial above. It won't fix itself until Alley is rewritting the whole launcher in C++ and publishing it without the dotNet asset as a 'very light' version
I've potentially found what caused this problem with Windows 8. I had a similar problem with 7zip, not the launcher but it seems related. It turns out that in Windows 8, even administrators don't have complete rights. There's a superior level called elevated rights which, while it exists in Windows 7, is fully enforced in Windows 8. It completely broke my 7-zip until I went in secpol and disabled the need for elevated rights on administrator accounts.
Well I too use Windows 8.1 and when I run my DSLauncher it runs perfect but when I open my character the screen turns black and I need to close FL forcefully. And if I go directly without using DSLauncher the multiplayer screen simply shows "Connecting to global server" but it never connects to any of the server what shall I do?

That's not related to the launcher. Can you make a separate thread in the help & support section and include your character(s) name(s) so I can see if anything happened server-side?
You also won't see the servers as the server list is embedded into DSLauncher.
