I guess I'm reasonably well informed as to the status of 4.86. The development is nearly complete and the development team will try to release the mod in the near future. It will not be released until a number of critical bugs are fixed. There is an excellent chance that it will be released sometime in the next 3 months, quite likely less.
Quote:But im starting to this this isnt worth $10,000 cause of all the loss of population, maybe $5,000 now.
What's this all about?

sadly - many ppl think that the decrease of population is only temporary - and that they will all come back. ( personally - i don t think so - and that there is a critical momentum ... once that momentum is reached - disco will loose members no matter what - due to the principle that only people attract people - not features ) .... in the past - disco has enjoyed that critical momentum - in a positive way... despite not being a mod that offered many new things - ppl flocked to it cause it was populated - and that momentum caused even more ppl to join.
to gain ppl in a downwards trend means you need to do 10 times better than to keep them. - and that.... is hardly possible anymore with a game that old.
there had been plenty of discussions about releasing - both publicly and internal.
again - my own opinion is that it should be released asap - and things that are critically bugged ... to be left out. ( like releasing specific packs to renew the feeling of the mod - around half a year ago ... )
however - the lead devs are in charge of deciding that - and before it was igiss.
i think that we already passed that critical momentum - disco has lost a LOT of people - which are unlikely to come back - other than a quick glance.
if the mod doesn t come before christmas - i seriously join the doomsayers, cause no matter what - even an amazing 4.86 is nothing, when there is no one to populate it anymore.
Yeah there's barely anything to do anymore, even in RP.
This is why I'm going on LOA to play other stuff. It's not like I haven't tried to create things myself, but it's getting very redundant right now and it's pretty much all about playing with the same players, same factions, in the same systems.
Will people stop yamming on about how the end of Discovery is in sight?
Every mod out there encounters the same thing we do, population changes.
As people get bored of the same mod and start to wait for the next version, numbers drop.
They tend to come back and even exceed what was there previously.
Whenever Disco was growing people ran around yelling that it would never stop growing and it is so awesomez and coolz.
Now when the population is dropping slowly due to the wait people are running around yelling it's the end of the bloody world.
Get a grip, if you want people to leave in massive numbers then keep being a negative naysaying arse, people will leave because the atmosphere will be sad and depressive.
If you actually aren't just wanting to be cool or dramatic, remember how this is a natural thing that happens in every human enterprise and that a positive attitude is all it takes for the mod to succeed.
