Yep, but you need to type anything then, which makes chat box to appear. Also typing something pointless or out of context just for sake of time stamp isn't very roleplayer'ish.And if you want to type something in context... that takes even more time than /thetime command.

When I flew my Freelancer, I used a /setmsg 1 that said "Cha-CHING!!!" or something like that.

If you have chattime on, just type "/l1" (that's an L) and with only 5 keystrokes will you both announce an inRP gloating over a kill and stamp the kill with a time.

To all who suggested /set chattime on,

not everyone player wants his chat to be overflowed with useless timestamps.

What #0 is suggesting is indeed very good idea since it lets concentrate more on ingame stuff rather than ooRP requirements for various things.

It's not an ooRP requirment. Think of it like date on your photo. It's inRP. The bounty boards are inRP and that requirment is inRP.
