I was wondering if disco could manage to do a complete size redo. making battleships as big as they really are, making fighters as small as they really are, making systems and planets as vast as they really are. This is something I have dreamed about for a very, very long time. the comparative speed would be the same as now, just size.
I would like to know, even if it won't be here for a very long time, I really want to know.
LIBERTY IS THE STRONGEST OF THEM ALL!!! oh wait, that's 4.84
Now you'll see. I'll predict the future. in 4.86 Gallia will launch a full scale attack on the houses! guess how I know.
I don't know what you mean. If you keep the systems the same size but make all the ships and stations smaller, it would have the same effect. same speed, same armour same refire rate, (though cap ships turrets might have a little less damage for a bigger refire-rate.) You could start with that, then make each ship smaller or bigger (eg. fighters can become 2% of their original size while caps are 10% and stations 15%, planets and star systems are still 100% and maybe stars at 150% or 120%)
I don't see any problems with it this way. doesn't even change the way the game feels in a negative way. I think everyone would just flush into disco if they put this in 4.87

no probs with fighters. everything is bigger or the same size as before. for Caps, I agree that it would be hard even with fast-fire guns. so maybe a more accurate targeting system? Note that the sizes aren't fixed. Fighters can be 5-7% of their original size and Caps would be 10-14%. stations, 15-20%. after a few minor changes this won't be a prob any-more
EDIT: If worst comes to worst, you can always make everything at 20% size except the systems and planets. But... I would take this as last case scenario

Its probably not going to happen on this mod. Even though its just a case of playing with a few numbers, the sheer amount of values that would need changing would make it a tedious process. If you resize the ships you also have to scale down speeds, weapon effects and everything else to prevent things being dis-proportionate.
IMO, battleships are the size they are supposed to be. Don't forget that everything needs to be able to fit through jumpgates and not so reliable jumpholes, and all the current battleship models are scaled to the fighters, stations etc.
If you really want to see a rescaled Freelancer there is nothing stopping you from having a go at it yourself. The tools are out there, there are tutorials on the forums, have a crack at it.

Actually, i believe the existing size scaling is very very poor.
Stations are way too large compared to planets (see the X universe, JGE or older games)
Battleships are well sized compared to stations, but the thing above hinders it compared to planets.
Snubs are by far too large compared to battleships (see Eve, X, JGE and a ton of other 4X games)
Heck, i even encountered people with battleships blabbering about how their Carrier can hold 30 fighters.
Yeah, sure....and from the visual perspective of the thing, it can barely fit 10.
For 15 you already need to give up the engine, a lot of crew and other useless stuff.
Meh, no wonder it's so.Freelancer was never intended to be a true simulator, for instance none of the existing planets revolve around a star. As a matter of fact, everything takes place in a non-relativistic universe.
Thus, impossible and kinda lame. But, it's fun.
Yea nearly everything in FL is unrealistic, we must deal with it since FL is more arcade than sim:D...Anyway scaling up or down all the stuff will create to much problems and it will be too time consuming to be worth it. The only way to make realistically sized capital ships and fighters is to make a mod from scratch, a total conversion where you can right from the start set the proportions of the object, but it is a waste of time when it comes to vanilla based mods.
