Also this would fix FL ridicule absurdity in all the cases now dock a station that is smaler than the vessel you dock with. The "Battleship stations" could remain size (making them supersized "stationary task" versions of the standard model or some 3D Experts build us some brand new "Carrier-class station models" for the major Factions (maybe even have a single one of thouse (not fitting any tradelanes anymore) flying real as Flagship for the local house Factiondictator/Kingpin).
This is really worth the effort. Having bigger battleship bases is something good, flagship is even better.
Rescaling all is a way too much work in order to be worth it, some realism junkie can do it and submit it to the dev team for testing/implementation if he is bothered so much, but nobody can request such thing in general, people even devs have lives and they do unpaid work.

those that like to "test" out realistic scaling should try out http://elite.frontier.co.uk/ ... this game is realisticly scaled with realisticly large planets.
i am not sure if those asking for that feature are aware of how big space, the space between planets - really is. ( and for that matter how large planets are compared to the size of even the largest imaginable battleship )
just an example - a full sized dysen sphere is but a speck of dust compared to space.
in order NOT to take centuries ( or millenia ) to get from one inhabitable planet to another ... you have to go FTL. now the funny part about FLT is - you cannot pvp while being faster than light, cause you can either only go straight - or you are folding space, which means, you simply re-appear in another place. ( hence no interaction in between entry and exit )
but even if you skip the space between systems with an FTL drive - you d need engines propelling you with with a speed towards a planet ( sublight ) that pvp is impossible. ( for that - see Frontier - where you are flying with sublight speed to a planet - you go straight on.... cause in order to make a turn, you d have to change the vector, which is really hard when you go several trillion kilometers per hour. ( the result being: all ships are basicly turrets )
then there is another funny thing about "realistic scaling" ( btw. EVE online is not realistic in terms of scaling ) - if things were realisticly scaled, chances to meet someone else in space are near zero. - however ..... at least weapons might be realistic, cause they might work beyond-visible-range... which is realistic but also quite boring.
soo - maybe we are talking about "more" realistic scaling instead of realistic scaling? - but we already HAVE that - digital envil made a compromise in terms of realistic scaling that had both - the idea of ships of various sizes, planets and distances in mind - while at the time time presenting the game as a casual arcade shooter. - so what we have IS a compromise - it might not be the compromise you want.
tl;tr :
realistic scaling kills fun ( and for the most part also the multiplayer aspect )
if its not realistic but "more" realistic, its just a subjective concept - but still anything BUT realistic
oh - and you really really do not want to "play" a space shooter with realistic sized, you really do not want....
people dont seem to be able to grasp just how big space actually is.
making it realistic, with 200 people max in the server?
you wont find another person, ever again. unless you find all 200 people in manhattan orbit, and even then, if it were realistic, you would still have trouble finding the others, even in space around a planet.
What would be really cool is if full-sized planets were enabled to a degree where you could fly down through the atmosphere to the surface, sort of like toward the end of the FL campaign, where you reach the surface of the Dyson Sphere.
It would require monstrous amounts of tweaking to the point where FL no longer resembled FL though, and thus won't happen.

I think this topic is pointless. I think huge brainstorming were held when the game was created and there is a reason why the FL universe looks so anti-newtonian:D
Also FL is - as mentioned - more a 3D action arcade game than a space ship sim. You want play a realistic space sim, play the great Frontier and you will then realise how arcade-ish and darn childich a PVP is in FL:D
you mean ... like trying to fix bugs that can CTD you? - well.... if you wish....
either way - realistic scaling cannot and will not be done. - no one is really up to put so much efford into reducing the fun of the game by that much.
I don't mean right now, I mean 4.96 97 etc... What I really mean is that the ships are scaled down but speed stays at current 350(its supposed to look like 100x faster) shields weapons etc... From what I see Almost nothing's changed. of course it would be difficult to find each other but not soo much since sensors stay the same range. by resealing I don't mean Manhat becomes impossible to go around, I mean manhat doesn't have 10mil people standing on 5cm each. nothing's changed except the ships, they can even find each other without too much difficulty.
PS the reason why FL doesn't have real planets was because of the deadline, not the want to make it an arcade game.
LIBERTY IS THE STRONGEST OF THEM ALL!!! oh wait, that's 4.84
Now you'll see. I'll predict the future. in 4.86 Gallia will launch a full scale attack on the houses! guess how I know.
