i think it should be like it is
because a gunboat, cruiser and battleship have the better shields and the better protection from the sun and so they can deal more of it then a normal fighter.
oh and btw if it is changes then fighters become as strong as a bs and that is an pure unbalance.
Look we have terrain for a reason. Nebulas are supposed to confuse sensors to let people slip away... that needs to be fixed so it actually works.
Planets/asteroids should hide ships behind them, game mechanic that will not be possible to fix I fear.
A myriad of other space terrains that if they were in the game, would put an emphasis on strategy rather than on the tactical outcome of X number of ships beats Y number.
So far, all a cap ship has is the sun corona to help it escape, battleships don't even have countermeasures (as unreliable as they are) to help it slip a bomber trap.
You really don't have to like the fact that a cap gave you the slip, it's annoying, sure. But then isn't that part of the challenge?
Bases have guns, so base camping is smart for the outgunned party.
Suns cook bombers.
Missiles help those who aren't as skilled with guns, or lag bunnies, stay relevant in the fight.
I mean, while you're at it, why don't you just have two ships sit at range and hurl pixels at each other. It'd be just about as boring your way. And I can assure you, no one wants to sit through that.
Deal with the terrain, Deal with the Gank
This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.

What the Ikons of Ikons said.
Thanks to whoever made Mississippi so awesome too.
Bah, legitamate tactic and I don't see it as a failure of game mechanics.
The shields and hulls of large ships can withstand more of the heat....the snubs can't. Sounds realistic to me. It's just like a captain pushing his sub to deep for the destroyers to get him or a Cruiser sailing into a storm that will capsize gunboats. You may not like it, but that doesn't make it wrong for the captain to do it. Snubs use asteroid feilds to break up the caps field of fire, caps use suns to discourage pursuit.
Solution: Get him before he makes it to the corona or send your own caps in after him.

Try burning a stick and a big log with higher surface to see the difference. Or cooking potatos of different sizes.
I think it's fine as it is. Using environment for your advantage it's an interesting use of tactics. Coronas and gas pockets favors bigger ships while asteroid fields favor small ships. It's also not a free ticket as ships still do take damage. You can even trap it there.
Unless of course we want to even odds for all encounters and turn Sirius into plain PvP arena.
Not my piece of cake.
' Wrote:Sun-running is a legitmate tactic. Irritating, but legit all the same. It's not an engine-mechanics exploit (like cap-spinning).
' Wrote:This, really. It's a legitimate tactic afterall.
And, if you think this tactic is too powerful, get a tactik against that one. Like trapping it there.
' Wrote:Its a legitimate strategy, the Environment is really key in some fights. Like who has the higher ground(see starwars EP.3)
If your in a snub, get the cap stuck in a asteroid field. Problem solved, easy munching.
If one where to apply Political terms to this, I would use the idea of Checks And Balances.
' Wrote:It is true that it is a valid (and cowardly:P) tactic.
But so is cap spinning, ganking, misle spamming, base camping and dock killing. Yet people around here moslty have issues with those tactics. Hence my suggestion.
the prob is that now caps can sit in the sun and spam missles or wait for a rep ship all day long without a worry in the world. it's kinda like sitting in a jumphole being unable to get hit waiting for your buddies to come save you.

' Wrote:Seems like a valid tactic to me. Capships have the hull strength to resist radiation damage for longer durations than fighters can. If fighters dont want to burn up in the corona, they can just wait around outside the battleship's weapon range, let him take some damage while you recoup.

Since when did instant gratification shove it's way into disco?

I have only 1 more thing to add. STOP FREAKING WHINING WHERE YOUR SNUB CANNOT KILL A BIG SHIP< CAUSE YOUR TO CHEAP TO BUY YOUR OWN!!!
Thank you. Come again.
From a dev standpoint the solution is simple enough. Sun corona's? 100K damage per second. Even a CAU8 barge would burn up in under a minute. Anyone skidding the corona to shake some bombers? Expect your guns to fall off, since they take damage individually.
It's a tactic that makes no sense whatsoever, landing on the bloody star.

Firstly: I have not left Disco due to a gank, nor do I condone anyone leaving due to excessive trolling of other players.
Secondly: No one is landing on the Star Don. Distance is relative, and the relative distances in Disco are very skewed.
Simply put, leave the sun corona's alone.
People need to accept the fact that just because they have an advanage in numbers/equipment, it doesn't mean they are going to win. There has to be some skill involved, and the skill aspect comes from using everything and every ounce of cunning at your disposal when you are outnumbered by odds of 6 - to - 1.
Hell if you're on the street being set upon by six random guys with baseball bats, you're not just going to roll over and let them beat you to death now are you? You're going to fight, run, and use everything around you to get away.
